Just replaced fuel pump and now Fuel Gage is at full on empty
I just replaced my fuel pump on my 99 xjr after 4 of the worst hours of my life. Everything is working as it should, except that the fuel gauge will read as full when i have only a couple drops in my tank currently. I'm pretty sure i put everything back in place, checked all the wires, etc. Is there something that i did not do that I should have. All wires are plugged, both pumps are working fine, all fuel lines are going to their correct spots.

could the sender float assembly be stuck up in the full position, did you rotate the tank so this could happen when you installed it? Maybe fill the tank, take for ride, and hope it settles?
I know the loom link at the top of the tank connects one way, so it can't be wires the wrong way around.
I have a tank out so I'll have a look at the possible cause this afternoon.

On my XJR, the wires can be reversed. Make sure they are connected exactly as you see in my attached photo. (Black Top, Red Bottom)
If that's not it, can a pinched (Grounded) wire cause this also? Seems I remember the sending unit sends the ground to the gauge. Am I off here? Just a thought.

THanks for the pic Supersport. Yes, my wires were in fact placed correctly. I even tried to reverse them, and still the same symptoms. I'm going to pull the sender out today. and see what the deal is. I would fill the tank, but if it doesn't fix the problem, i don't want to drive on mystery miles.
THanks for the tips guys. I'm going to pull the sender out in a little bit, and hopefully find a simple solution

FIXED!!!, but in a weird way. I removed the sender unit, and played around with the leveler with a friend in the drivers seat turning the key on and off to see if it made a difference as I moved the leveler, which it did not. I put it back in place, and was stumped. I then tried a hard reset again, Except this time I tied the negative cable to positive for 30 mins, came back, and it is fixed. Got to love jags
