That is the result of more ethanol in the fuels nowadays. I don't know the % in the UK or Europe, but anything over 10% was not made for our cars. Ethanol actually absorbs moisture and unless you keep your tank full all the time, this is the result.

I'm happy you figured out the issue Paul, good work. For your aspect of easier access, just think, it took 20 yrs for this to happen. So as long as you've cleaned up those contact points you should be good. Its not like your going to do this every month.

Btw...out of curiosity, ..what did you use to disconnect the fuel lines and did you replace the filter while there?

Great work Paul . . . and thanks for sharing your analysis of the resolution.

Cheers,

Highhorse. I used your idea with the shaped piece of pipe, had to make 2 as first didn't work! I was surprised how relatively easily I got them off!

Yes I fitted a new filter, seemed sensible with a new pump. Seems all is fine now, run the car out a few times today, think I will do a new air filter and have a clean of the TB tomorrow, can't do any harm.

Thanks to all for the help on where to look for the problem, once again, I wouldn't have known where to start, but my knowledge is growing 😊

Special thanks to Highhorse & Lady P.

Yeah, ..once you get the size correct, they come right out. Good idea to do some mild maintenance...like you said..can't do any harm.
