Key/remote

Hi All
Just bought a 1998 XJ8 at auction. In brilliant condition, but no owners' manual.
When I press the red button on the key remote, it locks all doors except the driver's door. When I press it for a second time, nothing happens.
I do note that the alarm will go off about 30 seconds after I open the driver's door, but I would prefer the driver's door locked, as someone could get in and steal something and be gone by the time the alarm starts.
What do I need to do to make the red button lock all 4 doors when I push it?
Thanks

Since the mechanical movement of the lock works then it is most likely a bad solenoid or a stuck micro-switch. A stuck micro switch would cause the SCLM to think the door is locked. Since the alarm sets it is most likely a micro-switch.
I would first open the door and spray a lubricant in through the latch mechanism before tearing into the door assembly. Spray something like WD-40 through the keyhole and the locking pawl area. Spray liberally and then exercise the the door opening closing and locking/unlocking and then give the remote another try.
While you are at it make sure that the boot unlocks with the key. The key area is known to freeze from non use and WD-40 will clear it up also.

I don't know if the handbook is on TOPIX but at least the 1999 one looks to be in this thread https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/x...ownload-66381/
