The mast segments get lubricated with 3 in 1 in the summer and WD40 in the winter.

The previous owner would have had to have x-ray vision to find the clogged drain - assuming it didn’t get clogged after - as above the grommet was clear and dry.

Next up is an interior clean - the exterior got washed and waxed yesterday noting the new left front wing badge is still in place but has lost its leaper ( ) so finding another is on the list along with the replacement bulbs and finding the right lubricant for the sun roof…

Hope things are well with you and your family and your Jags.

I had a brake light bulb that needed replacement so it was off to Canadian Tire for a replacement and a spare. Easy to access and easy to replace.

While there I picked up a pair of Sylvania Silver Star bulbs for the inboard head lamp because they are supposed to be “a brighter white”.

They’re really not, or at least certainly not enough to bother making the switch. Replacing them is a pita job that needs tiny hands so I won’t bother taking them back out and returning them. Will have to keep looking for other options…

I just had a look on the official Jaguar classic parts website, and the badge you need appears to be HNC5771AC.

Genuine Bonnet/front Fender Motif For Jaguar Xj 1998 - 2003 (from 812317 To F59525) Classic | Jaguar Land Rover Classic Parts

Costs an eye watering Ł58.21 (GBP) plus postage so it's quite an investment to replace, but at least they are still available.

Found a person in the UK is selling them for just Ł20 - with a rather strangely high Ł9.80 delivery fee to UK addresses, but I am not sure what postage to Canada would be?

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/202093856495

I just looked inline and postage to Canada comes up at around Ł17 for me, but I am not sure if this seller might be building some of their margin into the postage, and may therefore charge more.

If you struggle to source this in Canada and want someone to buy it in the UK and ship it out to Canada, I would be happy to do it for you - I have done that in the past for people on other forums as sometimes sellers take the Michael with postage costs.

Edit... I noticed that Jaguar remove the VAT when shipping to Canada, and the delivery is just Ł16.25 GBP - so it works out a total cost of Ł64.76 (about $112 CAD) for the genuine part from Jaguar. That is not as bad as it could be.

I wonder if you might get it even cheaper from a Canadian Jaguar dealer?

Thanks Chris… it was a new badge my independent mechanic had in stock and that Jaguar price about what I paid for it here last year. I haven’t lost the entire badge - which attaches mechanically to the hole in the wing - just the leaper emblem/insert as the glue failed (or someone “acquired” a souvenir). I’ll try and find/replace the emblem if I can before sourcing the whole badge.

Not particularly noteworthy but but the inboard running lights were removed without being replaced - no photo yet.

The Series 3 has been in the shop for longer than planned - 4 years of dry storage were not kind - so the XJR has not yet had her turn. Second mortgage offers may be considered in the near future.

In the interim, someone has expressed an interest in the 2002 Camry that’s been in storage so it was off to put in a new battery. Bought new she’s only done 87k km.

The XJR patiently waiting:

Decided the parkade would be a good place take a quick photo without the redundant high beam running lamps (a low beam is on full time in Canada and I quite disliked the yellow and white light side by side).

(a) I did not intentionally take a photo looking like the XJR was levitating.

(b) The tire tracks are not from the XJR.

I think I've posted this somewhere before about your car, but that is a beautiful machine! I've never been a big fan of red cars, but this particular red is now my second favorite color for an X308 (behind my black one, of course!). The X308 is the nicest looking car ever put on pavement by any manufacturer, but yours is exceptionally stunning.

The XZR is hopefully scheduled for some shop time next assuming the Series 3 VDP is done and they can swap spaces in a crowded shop.

I’m having no issues (other than the headliner which can wait until next summer) but lately when started from cold there is a faint “clicking” reminiscent of a noisy injector except it only takes place when in gear (forward or reverse) and not in neutral or park.

Shifting is smooth with no clunks or hesitations and the click disappears within a couple of blocks and doesn’t reoccur even on warm restarts. The transmission was serviced and the fluid replaced last summer and the car has done about 8,500 km since (currently at 104,000 km).

Thoughts? Thanks in advance!

When you don’t get out much and when your days are 16 hours long it’s easy to forget that some things can be even more striking at night. I was out this evening and now that our days are down to 10 hours, that was quite apparent.

It’s hard to tell how dirty she is but that will change tomorrow before the Pentas and the snow tires go on as the unseasonably nice weather we’ve been enjoying so far is forecast to come to an end shortly.

The picture above is this year’s last with the Asteroids and Continentals. Now that the Penta’s and Michelin X-Ice have been swapped in, she’s ready for winter even if I’m not.

Not XJR related - not even car related - but it’s our 51st wedding anniversary today so thought it would worth a toast before we settle in for some take home sushi…

A Happy Anniversary to both of you! I would suggest that you take the V12 VDP for an anniversary run…but after a bottle of Prosecco, you are probably better at home.

Thank you! And yes, an anniversary run in the V12 VDP would have been more than fitting if she wasn’t in the shop still. She’s been there since the summer with one thing leading to another waiting for this and waiting for that as this’s and that’s kept coming to the surface.

“The plan” was to have her back to enjoy while the weather was still nice but we’re cutting that pretty fine in this country - best laid plans and all that.

Hopefully we can pick her up this week and then we’ll see about a new mortgage to pay for the redemption. I have a pretty good idea of where we’re at but SWMBO doesn’t yet (although I think she suspects). Then it will be the XZR’s turn albeit with a much shorter list.
