Default Knoxville Tennessee... any diy's nearby w lift?

Any mechanics other than dealerships that work with ZF Transmissions such as fluid changes. Or someone that has a lift they'd let me use for a reasonable fee? Jaguar specialist would be asking a lot i know but how about it?? Anyone out there in this neck of the woods?

Do you have e any space to work on it without a lift? I used to think I needed a lift and sure they can be great, but then I got turned into cribbing and I freaking love it. Not quite as quick as a lift but absolutely not as expensive and not as in the way as a lift is. I have a garage just barely big enough to fit my xjl in, but I certainly couldn't get even the small lifts. I built a whole bunch of cribbing and with some creativity for something that's going to be a pretty big job. It's worth it! Super stable and now I use them all the Time even in place of jack stands sometimes. When I had my x-type up for a while when I was completely rebuilding suspension I had it up almost high enough to where I could sit up underneath it. That being said, none of this is helpful if you don't have The space though. However, the beauty of cribbing versus a lift is that you can use it in a parking lot or on the side of a (quiet) Street if need be.

Thank you very much! I've searched but never found what I needed. Admittedly my patience has grown thin and getting steered by paid for rankings has nearly stopped my using Google for sure. It appears I've opted to using the information gathered by previous kind souls who have traveled this path and are willing to share. God bless ALL of you!!!

In trying to be helpful I'll share what I've found to be extremely helpful for this and anything else. Not affiliated with them but wish I was just to be up on all thats new with the web etc but mainly artificial intelligence or ai. Its not so artificial from my perspective and is hands down the winner if you want just answers and no advertisers. Its actually free and my go to source like Google use to be. Don't know how long it'll be available as its vulnerable to the ai companies generosity of sharing their database. You may have heard of it... "Perplexity" a free android or ios app and accessible via a computer browser by going to their website Perplexity.com ... there are others but so far I've not had to look any further. Yes you can buy a subscription but you don't have to. The searches aren't limited as you'd think unless you're doing a research paper and needing college professional source data references. In that case opt in for the paid. Also by using your Google account to login you'll be able to save your history for future reference. Once you try it you'll never want to see Google again. Try it and you'll see for yourself.

Anyways that's my thank you to you. I'll be searching those links. Doesn't look like I'm anywhere near wrapping up a solution and when I do another will show up and off we go again.

My next perplexity question is how can I bring a battery back to life. Its had an answer for every other question I've asked so might as well. All I've got to lose is the 200 bucks it'd take to replace the battery that needs replaced anyways. You can see my logic I think. I won't find any ads trying to sell me anything. When was the last time you had that experience???

Not knowing the state of your battery, is a concern, however there are many
battery chargers on the market that advertise a battery "reconditioner" setting.
That seems to be a logical place to start with a subpar battery.

I don't use Google, I use Bing or Duck Duck Go. Also, AI is only as smart as someone wants to make it. They can also make the so called AI direct you to those paid ads.

So, here's what the cost is from Costco. I recommend the AGM (note the CCA difference, important on our cars), I am using one I purchased about 2 yrs ago. I can say they are superior to the standard brand and yes you can use a Battery Tender on it. If my vehicle is going to sit at least 2 weeks, it gets the tender attached.

Looks like the battery may ok. After a charge the standing voltage came up to 12.58 from previous 12.38v plus found out it tested good in May and was bought within the year. will ck again at sunrise to be sure. I do have a maintainer hooked to it now.

The fluid change got me thinking and I realized all I need to do iright now is install the dipstick. Then I can check, top off or change (drain) fluid easily. that I can just jack up the car. Checking on the availability of the kit now.

Finally saw the message for the yellow light last night. Check back lights I think was what it said. was a brief one time thing last night. came and went before I even moved tge car and best I could tell all lights were working. ReChecking with a helper to apply the brakes..

After the cold start and the limp mode gearbox fault reset it was fine for the rest of the day. I'll get it figured out and if I have a speed sensor going out then I drop the pan and do the fixes.

I wouldn't be surprised if it just needs some fluid. I won't be happy until it has a dipstick. I know that much.

As far as Perplexity goes, don't knock it until you try it. You may be pleasantly surprised. Ask it anything. Its pretty damn convenient thats for sure. Don't really need my browser much these days. The ai way is so much quicker. Takes longer to type the question than get the answer. Then it gives followup questions to pick from if you want. Honestly its had things I hadn't thought of asking. Can't wait to get a full-blown agent with voice and video. Next month.

Anyways thanks for your ideas. All are good ones.

Rich

A couple of things on the ZF, one is the plastic electrical connector, it's known to leak and I think they still sell replacements if yours is weeping. Then there's the valve body upgrade to prevent blowing out the 'A' drum.

You can look up the instructions before you buy, it's pretty simple. When was the last time the trans fluid was changed... the filter could be in need of a swap-out. They have ZF fluid/filter kits on eBay to where you can find the correct fluid numbers and search for better pricing. The ZF fluid isn't cheap and there are a few deals on eBay. I think I used Febi last change.

Thanks! I agree and do have space. I was working on a way just a bit ago but today's just a scorcher and too hot out to even be outside. Need to make some ramps so I can clear my bumper and get onto my ramps.

I am hoping to be under the car this weekend for a look around.

I did pick-up the TransGo kit. Battery tested out 100% and standing voltage is around 12.5v after sitting all night. After topping off battery before I looked closely at it I've not had any more p0715s with amber light and Limp mode which is great. Today, if all goes well, will be day 4 of running correctly however getting my hopes up or talking positively about such an outcome has in the past angered the cat and she's bitten back. So I didn't say a thing. 😃

I've been trying to contact euro sport the maker of the dipstick kit but haven't heard back yet. Want to be sure he's still around before sending him $160 via PayPal. If he's no longer in business then I'll make my own using photos I've found of his kit. I'm hell bent on having a dipstick and if things continue working correctly it'll be the next item to be tackled. I do have a filter and a half dozen quarts of Royal Purple atf but undecided on that. Originally ordered the Bilstien off ebay but canceled and went with the Royal Purple thinking I was doing better but now I just don't know and can return the RP. Cost was about equal for either with RP about 5$ cheaper if that.

The power steering fluid level has been corrected as it was close to double what it should've been. Nearly filled to the top but now where it belongs. That may be the pink fluid leak I saw. I've wiped it down and car is parked over a culvert now ready for me to slide under and take my first close look at whats what. Camera on a stick has been my only real way to seeing anything to date.

Lastly I have a battery tender wired and ready should I not drive the car for whatever reason. I really don't go anywhere but across town once or twice a week to visit my brother plus grocery shopping. Add it all up and its not 20 miles. Think I'll just keep driving it but trips I'm thinking my Fusion I've owned since new is a better choice when I could be at the mercy of the road. Rather have a broken down ford over a jaguar anytime but especially when hundreds of miles from home. I saw it happen already when my brother retrieved it and tried to drive 800 miles. Five hundred into it he had to be towed to a dealership because tensioners let loose. Five days in a hotel and paid 5k for repair because he had no choice. Part of my gone brothers estate and car was filled with everything else. It was way too much but so it goes. I'm understandably guy shy with the jag and highways which sucks cause I wanted a big car for travels. A jag hadn't crossed my mind until it was in my drive.

Anyways I'm proceeding slowly and doing all I can to make the best of this car. Drivers seat power stuff needs fixed but its set to a decent position but I'd love to have all the functions. Got sidetracked with the gearbox fault messages and Limp mode. Never a dull moment so far. Been a long 45 days to be sure.

Finally I think I found the type of garage I was looking for and really close too. So there's an avenue I can explore if or when I need a lift. He can probably build the dipstick kit too. I'll be checking next week.

Thanks for the solid advice. Enjoy your weekend!!

Rich

Oh, almost forgot, I am looking closely at the electrical connection on the trans as it appears that area has seen some type of fluid. Will know better later today

Rtp

Is this the electrical connection to the tranny that could leak?

Am I to assume its a dead idea and if I want one I've got to make one? Can't find any recent post about this on any forum yet. Hope I'm not outta luck on my dipstick kit.

Saw mention of sealed trans tube underneath a right-side cover by firewall so I looked and saw nothing. Was hoping anyways.

I'm done for the day. I can spend way too much time reading up on different topics.

I wonder how this will all end? Maybe it never does.

Was a good read. Thanks for that.

I didn't see the Q to respond to it being under the pic. No, that is not it, it's the umbilical connector coming in the case at the back of the pan. It's about 2" in diameter.
I tried looking on eBay, who used to have a bunch of them years ago, but saw none.

That thread I thought would help in two ways, first to show you there was little to no response back then. Then to show the dipstick and where the design came from so you may be able to produce your own. I have a dipstick I made for the 722.6 I need to put on site for folks.
