Default Large Leak: Emission Hose Part Number

Trying to find the part number for the interconnect hose for the two evap tank of the emission system

I'm moving my original 02 XJR to PA and changing the registration .... naturally when I pulled it out of the garage and drove it to PA the CEL came on after giving me the Gas Cap warning. The Cap was replaced about 2 years ago so I dove it back to my independent who pulled the canister valve on the right canister. Common failure -- this was the problem. I ordered the valve but I'm concerned about the hose that runs between the two tank (the XJ has two Evap tanks). The hose is a metal pipe with both ends rubber to connect to the tanks .... mine is very rusty and it's looking tired. I can't find the part number for this hose .. I see a diagram but no related number. Some of the hoses are NLA .. this may be the case and I may have to make something up if it fails ...... I would rather just replace the hose now and be done with it.

I'm bumping this ... no one has had this problem?

know I read about this hose someplace a while back --- that is why I knew about the two tanks and had it inspected ?

I had to replace the rubber hoses several years ago. I used 3/4-inch fuel line. The hose from the fuel filler was a PITA cause I couldn't make the bend without either kinking the hose or rubbing on the frame. I found a 3/4-inch OD 45-degree-bend pipe that fixed the problem.

This pipe/hose ... sits above the rear suspension and connects the two Evap tanks on either side of the car. I'm not seeing it in the picture ? The middle is metal and the two ends rubber to connect up to each tank. Mine is very rusty . It may have a slight bump in it .... I looked at it quickly while on the lift at my independent.

Hispeed42. Most of those hoses are available -- It's always interesting ... some are reasonably priced while others are not. I'm not surprised the fuel filter hose was damaged -- it's seems people assume the filter is expensive and try others that don't fit property .... It's just a GM part. When I was more active in a club it was a common thing to see odd filters when member bought used Jaguars.

My crossover pipe was in good shape, so no worries there; sounds like yours might be suspect. I was able to get part numbers off the hoses before they crumbled apart in my hands while removing them, but threw those away when I started searching for the OEM hoses, which were not available then. I did get some cross-references to Ford parts, but opted to just get the fuel line and cut new hoses. No waiting for the parts to arrive and I've had no problems in that area since. And, it was the fuel FILLER hose that returns fuel vapor from the gas cap area to the left side canister.

The Duchess (2003 Vanden Plas) occasionally gets the "gas cap" warning although she has acquired a brand new gas cap. Perhaps we should check for problems in the Evap system.
Thanks for posting this.

It's pretty easy to check the hoses, just put the left rear on a jack stand, slide under there, and the hoses are right in front of you. I highly recommend a pair of latex gloves just in case your hoses are in the same shape that mine were. They were literally crumbling when I touched them and it took a week to get that crap off my hands! IF you have to replace the hoses, here's an example of the tube I used to make the bend around that little bracket (I forget what it holds, maybe the wheel sensor wires?). It's been about 12 years ago ...

Good Luck !!!

Thanks...yes the latex gloves were essential. I found nothing that "stood out" but may try a smoke test for assurance.
