Default Leaper or no leaper?

I've always liked the leaper on the hood. Thoughts?

Not allowed by law in the UK, hit somebody with it and it's a law suit.

On 60's Jag's, like the MKII and S type they look perfect, maybe get away with the XJS, but on the 308's and XK's I think they look wrong. I prefer a simple Growler badge.

On an X308? Of course.

The Leaper is the quinticential Jaguar emblem.....BUT, looks out of place on XK8's and the latest generation.
I would never own an XJ series without one ;o)

Unnecessary "add on" adornment, IMHO. If I ever need body/paint repairs I'm taking mine off and having the holes filled!

Gotta agree with Doug. For the XJR, at least, I think the car looks sleeker without the leaper. If I ever need front end work I will have the holes filled and go with a growler badge.

Leaper on an X308? Absolutely! It is a part of the character and soul of the car.

Yes they are :
The first S-Types ("X200" 1999–2002) are distinguished by a U-shaped centre console and optional touch-screen navigation system in the 2003 and later models. The traditional leaping jaguar hood ornament was optional even though it is approved by the US and EU standards and breaks away in the case of an accident.

I have to vote yes on the Leaper. Every XJ I've ever had had the leaper and I think it finishes the car beautifully.Of course, it looks completely out of place on the sporting models be it E type, XJ-S or XK8/XKR...

If you think Jaguar soul and character is "frou-frou" in nature, and is enhanced by gee-gaws then, yes, by all means go for the leaper !

No harm intended. Just fueling the fire a little

I love the leaper and was crushed when they quit putting them on the newer models.

Petthesweaty-- I agree. I'm gonna miss the leaper on the newer jags. If I get one, I may have to add a leaper myself to the car, even though some think it looks funny. I don't. To me, that's what sets it apart as a jag!

Doug....I wouldn't have thought of the 'Leaper' as a 'geegaw'....rather as an icon.
But personally, I don't think they look right on models after the X350.

Ok. It's an iconic geegaw. How's that?

IMHO Jags are gorgeous without them. I think they look "added on" no matter how you slice it. It's like gilding the lilly.

Cheers
