And it goes like stink and stops on a dime. It also has the CATS active ride system. I don't know if this is standard on all XJR's.
No, CATS is not standard on the x308 XJR. My 2003 R1 had it (like yours), but my current 98 does not. I liked the CATS system, but when I had to replace the shocks it was pretty expensive for OEM Bilstein units.
I am only the second owner. I bought it in 2005. Just loved the car when I first saw it. My knees went a bit weak, lol. Even today, when I walk away from it, I turn and look at it. Only car I have ever owned, that has made me do this for 17 years...
I've owned the car for almost two years now and it's a daily driver having done more than 20.000km during said timeframe.
Lot's of work and love has been put into the XJ and it is shockingly reliable thus far.
Greetings from Austria
Most Welcome Oliver!
I really appreciate a well looked after example. Being a Nik engine it should easily cope with daily use, the only thing to be cautious of are 'cold start, move it 10 yards shut off' - this on-off process can cause the infamous 'bore wash'.
Other than that, if it's the original engine it will show very little wear on the bottom end and bores with regular oil services. Even at 500,000km! If there's a green tag, it's been replaced under warranty.
You're part of the best online X308 family now.
thank you! Glad you like it. I really do look after it quite well. Thank you for mentioning it - I try my best to not cause excessive wear through unnecessary short moving of the vehicle. The engine is a certified OEM from late Nov 1997 with roughly 90.000miles.
The list of things I've already done to the car in the past months (while being a daily driver) is quite extensive but here is a little overview:
- All fluids changed (engine, supercharger, coolant, steering & transmission and differential oil) - All timing chain tensioners and gaskets along the way - Thermostat, expansion tank, temp sensor and the tachometer upgrade for accurate coolant temperature - New steering rack, starter motor and false bulkhead connector - New shocks (CATS), springs, bushings, new brakes (+ bigger front rotor upgrade), new rear subframe with PU bushings - 18" Penta rims on winter tires, 18" Flute rims on summer tires - HID headlights and full LED conversion on the interior - Illuminated side markers (not standard on EU models) and customs side indicator relais that the side markers "blink" as well - Black alcantara roof liner (including ABC pillars) and new speakers - Footwell lighting front and rear
Speaking of side lights, is there a relatively easy retrofit for US cars? I have leaper badges there and it would be neat if they acted as turn signals.
