Loose brake assist tube

Loose brake assist tube
On my '01 XJ8 there is a vacuum tube that slides into the side of the throttle body to assist the power brakes. I had recently reinserted that tube after some repair work and noticed there did not seem to be anything holding it in place, although it tended to stay put and all was well.
Last night, for some reason, it popped out of the hole and caused to engine to stall out after starting and not idle. I could hear the sucking and was able to see what had happened. Stuck it back in the hole and all returned to normal.
My question is what would be a good sealant to use to keep it in place? I am concerned that just any old silicone or whatever might not stick because of the fuel vapor or heat at that site. I'd rather not make a mess of it.
My guess is that a proper repair of the part that should be gripping the tube would be costly.
Cheers - Rik

The tube is retained by the black plastic fitting in the throttle 'elbow'. If it will not stay in the fitting, then it is broken. The way to release the plastic tube is to press on the fitting collar and gently pull the tube out. Pulling on the tube without releasing the fitting will cause something to break (tube or fitting).
Sounds like your's is already broken.
The fitting is probably part of the throttle elbow (NSS) but you might try to 'zip-tie' the tube in place.

Thanks for the ideas guys. The vacuum tube will slide in and out freely when pulled on at this point. When I first posted, I was afraid it would be popping in and out constantly but it hasn't so far.
It doesn't seem to require sealant to run normally, so the zip tie might just do the job until I can get back in there and see what happened and if buying a replacement part makes sense. I was told there is possibly an o-ring involved and I would like to make sure dust doesn't get sucked in the throttle body.
