Lost Key and Fob!!!

Its something like that, but you know we(dealer) charge a $125 fee regardless of the number of keys and remotes we program at the same time. And if you buy the key here its cut free as well. And guess what, if there is a issue with a key that doesnt want to program like this whole thread started as, and its not the car but the part. There is still no extra charge................

I received my new keys yesterday but upon close inspection I realized that it was not the correct key blank. The key blank I received is for a 6 cut tibbe key vs an 8 cut tibbe key. I am awaiting a response from the key company to hopefully get this issue resolved. I have to say that the remote and key are of the best quality!!

Update: I have been in contact with the key company who have now figured out that they have been selling the 6 tibbe key blanks that are not compatible with those of us who require an 8 tibbe key blank. They have been very helpful and are willing to accept the return of the flip key heads w/blank.
So, I'm left with once again creating a flip key design that will work for years and not for weeks or months. I came across another thread where a member has done the same. I'm including the link to Azcats' previous thread on his adventure of creating a flip key.

I did take the key two flip key FOBs and programmed them to my cat. At the same time I programmed two OEM style FOBs as well. I'm waiting on a few correct key blanks, chips and other parts to try and create a CORRECT 8 tibbe flip key complete unit. When I say complete I mean the correct flip key head w/transponder and the correct key FOB w/electronics. This is becoming pretty expensive real quick. Being somewhat OCD on projects like this I need the key fob to function 100% and also have a true OEM appearance and finish. The basic setup per flip key and fob without modifications of removing the six tibbe key and replacing with the 8 tibbe key is approximately $115. I'm thinking the proper key is around $18 without the correct flip key end. I'm sure I'll go through a few keys to get the correct shaped flip key end to attach into the flip key head.
On the bright side I found out that the dealership will cut the key for $6 and programming will run ~$165.
I'll post more as the project on my end progresses.
As for now I need to replace the tranny fluid, radiator, spark plugs and a fresh oil/filter change.

Sorry for going off topic somewhat, but I am looking at a 1997 VDP (6 cyl) at an insurance auction in nice condition with minor damage. Unfortunately there are no keys. It will go cheap $300 -$400, but I was wondering if the same issues discussed here apply to the 97 X305 with respect to keys imobilizers and so on. I have a 95 XJS, which is why the XJ6 interests me. Also, what are the differences between the X305 and the X308.
Thanks,
John

You might want to post that question in the X305 forums to get a quicker response. Another route would be to contact one of the Technicians who frequent the forums and ask them through the message route. Awesome price on that '97 VDP. Good luck

i don't think that 97 vdp has a transponder/chip on the head. If i am wrong someone here will correct me pronto....chip introduced in 98 models...if so cost for key dup should be pretty cheap. re 308 and 350 differences , there was a recent thread on this as per zora.....
No chip on the 97 as JagJunky stated. '98 models and forward are chipped.

Re. Lost key for 1998 Jaguar XJ8
Brutal,
I live in Midland, Tx. I misplaced my only Key and Remote Fab. While I was in Houston,
Momentum Jaguar parts Dept. on SW freeway ( 59 South) Cut me a new Tibbe key based on my car's vin No. I was told that this key need not be programmed and car should start fine. Is it a fact or this key needs to be programmed? If yes, could it be programmed here and how? I do not have any other key.
I will appreciate your reply.
