Default Low oil engine now what?

Yesterday day changed engine oil the mechanic added 6 liter instead of 7 liter i even asked him he said yes i added 7 liter today discovered my engine was running on 6 liter of oil . Now i can hear strange sound under the camshaft cover its like old rusty fan sound ! I did add 1 more liter but u think its too late there's a damage already or serious damage is on the way

Guys do u think serious damage happened? And did anyone of u had same situation?

How long did you drive it with the 6 and how long have you with the 7?

Read this TSB and check your dipstick... http://www.jagrepair.com/images/TSB/...il%20level.pdf

Hi ray . About 40miles with 6 liter then added 1 liter drive about 20 miles .
No knocking sounds but that like fan sound under the cam cover worrying me . Didn't go beyond 3k rpm

While it is not advisable to run an engine with less than the recommended oil level I doubt any harm was caused by being a liter low in a 7 liter system, especially just 40 miles at low rpms.
Six liters would probably put the oil level at the "MIN" level on the dipstick. I can't think that it could in any way be responsible for the noise you are hearing.

+1 to CK's response to with what you've provided.

Do you have an engine stethoscope to dial in that noise better?

i used the stethoscope and the noise was near the secondary tensioner i pulled the left side cam cover but the tensioner looks fine!

days ago the breather hose that's connected to the air intake was broked i didn't know that until i opened the hood so used some glue and tape to fix it temporally until i get hose and fix it .

Checked the tensioner it looks fine no cracks. Could be a pully ?

When you say left side, are you talking facing it from the grill or from inside? I ask because you mentioned the breather tube and left side in the same instance.

There is a 'breather' hose on BOTH cam covers.

Air into the engine from the air filter on the right side (FULL LOAD BREATHER) and air out (into the intake, PART LOAD BREATHER) on the left side.
If the oil light did not come on during driving, I doubt anything is wrong because of the low oil level.

Early Jaguar V8 engines were fitted with a longer dipstick and a lower oil fill. (probably what you might have had before you added a quart)
During high cornering loads it might be possible for the engine to draw air if the oil pickup is uncovered with the oil pulled away to the side of the pan.
You might encounter this if you are a fan of 'drifting' you car!!

Jaguar engineers recommended adding a liter and a new dipstick marked accordingly. (see GENERAL INFO TSB 100-17)

My x308 is 2002 the oil light didn't show . And didn't drive it much i i rarely go beyond 3 k rpm . I don't know how to upload video here i think its not possible or not easy .
Today i drive for about 50 miles below 3k rpm car run fine but that sound just strange .
I think its beyond my knowledge i will take my car to jag specialist i don't want this engine to die but unfortunately more cash will go

In order to load a video, you have to do it as a provided link. You make a video and post it to YouTube or such, then provide a link here. You can't upload videos directly to the site.
