Maiden Voyage... persistent P1121
So completed the rebuild, MOT passed with flying colours, taxed and insured, then it rained, downer. I had to wait a day to fire it up and take it for a tentative cruise round the block.
I managed all of 5 miles before it went into failsafe mode. Turned it off and on and away it went. I called in on a friend who's been following the rebuild and on the way back it did it again. By this time it was dark, and I wasn't in the mood for the torch in teeth, just shower and bed.
Read a couple of posts, put a battery on charge and retired. Once I was up and compos mentis, I switched batteries, cleaned the maf/tps connectors, and reseated the abs module connector. I also checked/tightened the front suspension bolts, put some air in the tyres and went for my second run round the block. No shocks, ran beautifully, like a brand new car, I'm getting confident and feeling very proud, I give it a mildly aggressive push on the gas pedal, upshifts to 3rd gear and I hit the brakes, bingo, failsafe mode.
This time it wont go away after a restart, so I ring my buddy with the flatbed.........
I plugged in the OBD reader and got 6 issues, the only one I could accept as genuine was 1121 pedal switch out of range. John Leavitt posted that he'd cured his two XJRs' with new ones. Lucky for me I have a spare pedal box assembly, so swopped the switches and while doing that, I unplugged the battery.
Put the key in and waited, a clean system check and I turned the key, no failsafe, just that low burble I hoped for. Good start....
Took it out for round 3, admittedly to the end of the road, all the while using the brake pedal. Took it back and locked it up. I'm pretty sure it's the switch, but I'll know for sure when I test the cruise control tomorrow, and I'll remember to engage it outside my house!
The journey is nearly finished. I've a few little niggles to sort, but for now stage one is complete. I'm happy and content. Thanks forum and in particular, John I own you a pint or two of Guinness.

Still getting the P1121 so it looks like a throttle body swap to see if it cures it. It keeps telling me the "pedal position sensor A circuit Range/Performance. So I'll give that a try next. The car is stunning, just this glitch keeps my confidence low, it's a total bugger.
@ Mid...
I got the badge from classiccapsule.com, the guy can replicate any badge, the red "100" changes to gold. (I've all parts to put it back to standard 100 spec, but it's my vision of what Jaguar would have produced if they'd developed the car another couple of years.
Yep the fogs are xenon with drl rings round the outside. I took a leaf out of Sinister's book after he did his repaint and copied his method of install, along with fast cure black sealant. I bought a few sets until I got the set I really liked. Time will tell if they're any good. The outer rings are linked to the side lights. It looks factory to me. Along with the HID dipped beams, it's got good night lighting.

With a little bit of luck it is only a cable adjustment correction for the P1121, but if you have already done that and also changed the PPS unit, it might be a cabling thing.
Can imagine how it must have been to start her up after so much work, and I hope you get the (minor) issue sorted.
What brakes do you have?

Hi Vincent,
The brakes are made by Alcon. They are 6 pot monobloc on the front and 4 pot on the rear. The bells/rotors are Alcon also, same dimensions as the Brembo discs, so I didn't need to fit larger wheels. I had adaptor brackets made so the calipers fit the XJ hubs. They are the same brakes that are fitted to the XKR-S of 2008. Probably the most impressive thing about the car is the way it stops, it pulls up like a mini cooper, and for a 1.8 ton car, that ain't bad!
Still some things to finish off, but for now nearly sorted. I think I fixed the P1121 code by swapping parts, we'll see how that goes over the next few days as I try and clock up some more miles.
Thanks for the positive comments guys, means a lot.

A little machine shop just around the corner from me, I took a front hub assembly with the disc bolted on and the caliper. We used a wooden template a member on here loaned me, and made some sketches and measurements. Then went ahead and machined them out of EN 21 steel.
Have you got around to fitting up your Brembo kit? Do they need brackets? Have you got a picture of them?

Sean, I gave up my brembo conversion just because I was not able to have some one fabricating the adopter for me.
about the one you fitted in, they are the same in size as the silver Brembo R kit from jaguar.
I was wondering if your shop can make one for me despite I am from the other side of the pond? Mind the tell me the cost of making that adopter?

@loblue, I've responded to your thread....
@ Jimmy L - no riots in Southport, but I visited an engine shop in Toxteth, about 45 minutes away, they where advised to shut up shop early, 2-300 youths set fire to some shops and commercial bins. Your wife is from Atherton hey? you are married to a scouser! Good man! Thanks for asking and the kind comments, hope you like the latest pics...
And while I'm here, I can report that after swapping the pedal position sensor I've completed 100 miles without issue, took the car on a short sprint along a dual carriageway today and wound it up to 100mph, a tiny vibration around 50mph that told me I need the wheels balancing, a quick look and I'd lost the wheel weights on the left hand front wheel. Having the wheels reconditioned, the glossy paint on the inside of the rim has obviously spat the weight off.
I am loving this car!
