Metal Clunking Noise form Driver Side Engine Area
Hello,
Need some thoughts here, so I have an annoying metal on metal rattle/clunk noise coming from the Driver Side engine area / tire area.
At first I thought it was the sway bar bushing, replaced both and no go, I think the clunking (not metal on metal) is from my upper mount as the rubber bushing is looking bad, but there is a nasty rattle / metal on metal from the driver side rim / break area.
Could this be a bad shock?
Car is a 1999 XJR with 58K miles
thanks for your help

Take a serious look at your subframe bushings. The suspension rides on four really large bushings two located under the motor. They look similar to a flipped over old school engine mount and two other big round ones that you've probably already checked out.
The XJR tends to run through these bushings a little more quickly because their tires size has a much lower sidewall ergo the subframe bushings and mounts take more of the road impact.
You can do the job yourself with hand tools and a weekend.
