Just hit 100K.
My plan is to just keep the car and do the care and feeding needed. I love this car! Living in So. Cal. I don't have to worry about the tin worm, so its an easy decision for me to make.
Regardless of the market value of the car, I would rather put the money in to maintain it, than to make payments on a new car which will only depreciate and I won't like as nearly as much.
Cheers!

Congratulations on the 150,000 milestone. My XJ8 has 43,000 to go to catch you up. What a great excuse for driving it more. LOL

Thats what I'm doing. I'm going to clean it up, tighten it up since it has a few nagging issues... redo the interior to update it, twin screw it and probably rebuild the motor and trans and just keep driving it as a classic.

I am not in the "R club" (yet!), but I will do the same with my VDP. There is no way to go out and buy one new from the dealer. The new cars don't do it for me. I will maintain my VDP to the "T", and keep it for the next 20 years (IF I live that long!).
The maintenance on our vintage cars is way cheaper than buying ANYTHING new, making payments with interest, and absorbing depriciation. But even that, it's not about "just the money" (can't take it with you, and if you need more, you just go and make more!).

It's about the "love affair" with X308, and they are easy to fall in love with. Many a time I find myself parked among many different cars on the big parking lots, and I look around,.....I can't see ANYTHING I would rather drive than my X308. And I can buy whatever I want. I don't even have to make payments, I can write a check for a brand new ANYTHING, but why? This thing makes me happy, I look "different" on the road (I spent way too much time of my life in the unform, and looked like everyone else, so I strive to "be different"). Not obnoxiously, "look at me, I got money to burn" kinda different, but understated, classy, "I only drink old single malt" kinda different, if you know what I mean.

I don't care that my Cat is lazy (most cats are anyway!), I make the world wait for me. I don't have to beat anyone in the quarter mile, to get my testesterone flowing (I have too much of it anyway!), and I don't aim to impress anyone.

My Cat has only 87K now, but I am SURE she will do 200+. When the time comes, I will tear the engine to pieces myself, and spend some quality time in my garage, rebuilding everything from scratch. Getting her going for decades to come, will be rewarding, challenging, and fun. And the best thing? She looks better and better as the time goes by, sitting next to the "uniformed" cars, that look like the same Asian kid designed them, and you need to read the badge to know what it is.

And I'm also selfish by nature (and not affraid to admit it). I don't care that the fossil fuels will run out few generations from now. By then the new generations will drive lookalike electric cars, and I will be burning gasoline for the rest of my life.

Long live X308!

150k miles on my XJR & still going strong-I know of a 2000 XJR that passed 220k miles, so they go the distance easily

Default 180,000 miles and engine still purring!

I am now over 180,000 miles, and I want to continue keeping the cat running. Not sure how long it will run, but if it can surpass my SAAB's record of 253000 miles, I would have gotten my money's worth!
