Lightbulb MNC7340BF - A/C hose (compressor to condenser "discharge" hose)

Just some tips for those who may need to replace this:

- This part fits both the XJ8 and XJR though lots of parts catalogs only list it for the XJ8. Got mine from Jagbits.com as they were able to answer this question for me when others couldn't.

- Make sure it doesn't rub against any mounting brackets once it's installed or they'll rub a hole in it. This is how mine died.

- Disconnecting it from the compressor is a pain if you try to do it either from the top OR the bottom. Believe it or not, it's easiest to reach the bolt through the wheel well! (8mm or 5/16)

- It's very helpful to have a ratcheting 8mm or 5/16" wrench as there's very little space. A typical 1/4" ratchet won't fit.

- The venturi-type vacuum pumps (~$19.00 at Harbor Freight Tools) work just fine even with a run-of-the mill air compressor.

Lessons learned on 99 XJR.

Did you have to remove the front part of the wheel arch lining in the wheel well to access the a/c compressor condenser discharge hose??

Could this be a better method to access the a/c compressor unit mounting bolts, and its electrical connectors (also the other parts that need to be disconnected) when you need to replace the compressor unit??

No I didn't have to remove any part of the wheel arch lining. There was already enough clearance there to get my hand through. Of course, it's possible that part of my lining was already missing.

rob
thanks for that wheel arch suggestion , I just ran into this problem and I didnt sense the wheel arch was an option but now I will try it that way as you suggest.
I couldn't even sense where the line was going into form under the car.

May I ask what replacement you used for the hose? OEM or aftermarket or had the original fixed?
regards
Peter

I replaced mine -- One of the cars only repairs.

Remember some confusion with the parts counter regarding the sensor mounted to the hose at the condenser connection -- don't remember them (dealer) doing it from under the car -- or removing the wheel.

Did you replace the receiver dryer? Should be replace when system opened/ serviced. Think I paid less then $400.00 for the fix.

I'm glad the venturi worked ... most find them problematic
