Default Module programming

Does anybody know how or where to program modules like the door control modules, body control module, etc.? Is this something strictly for the dealer? I hear that independants with "autologic" software can do this. Does anybody have any experience with this? If it can be done, what do people pay for this service.

it has done that a few times in the past few months, so I bought another from a salvage yard. I read somewhere once that they could not be used without being reprogramed to the vin in my car. I will know for sure the next time I need to reprogram the one in my car, because I will replace it with the one from the wrecking yard.

john:
some few modules need vin compatability, and although I am not at all sure, I would be suprised if the door module was one. And yes, the Autologic Software, or another dealer software is what it takes.

John, if the vehicles you own are the ones in your signature, door modules, body processors do not need programming when buying new or one from a salvage. They come pre programmed on those years. You need to know what the VCAT number is before ordering a module to ensure you get the right one. The VCAT label is in your trunk, left side of spare tire under the carpet. Look for DDM, driver door module, or BPM, body processor module....etc. Write the number down......after the part no. you'll see something like this: /001, or /002. The last 3 digits are the programming codes. These must match the ones on that new module for your car to work properly.

John,
From the future, 23 years to be exact, I can confirm that it is possible to reprogram modules using JLR SDD v160 software. I just reprogrammed a REM for my 2004 VDP. This was 3 months in the making from research to hooking my laptop to the car and following the prompts.
I am interested in seeing if this software can reach back to the 2000 XJ8. we'll have to see.
