Default Motor/ Transmission Mounts?

Well, I took the motor out yesterday and after I inspected all the mounts I see that they need to be replaced as all of them are ripped.

What are the best to get? What works? Are there any upgraded units? Will mounts from the Lincoln LS work? I see that the trans mount from the LS looks the same and is only $26

Don't know if the Lincoln engine mounts are the same as Jag, I know the Jag ones are fluid damped, filled with oil, common failure point.

OK, so I compared the Lincoln mounts, and they would work height wise and are much cheaper but the K member would have to be modified and I didn't feel like going through that much trouble.

The cheapest I found the engine mounts is $60 each from Rockauto. Not a bad deal especially that you can always google their 5% off coupon so $57.

The trans mount (also rock auto) I'll report back if it fits as it is under LS mounts. I ordered the last one that was with private label packaging for $26 so the only one left is for $40 which is still not a bad deal. I'll let you guys know if it fits.

Do they give a manufacture location?

Some of the mounts from China for the MB's are perfect copies ..... but they are not -- people are starting to have early failures of the rubber.

Says made in india. For $26 I'm willing to risk it.

The one to stay away from are HAMBURG TECHNIC GERMANY. They are sold by Deutsche Parts Usa on e-bay and they fall apart and are made far from germany.

A couple of the aftermarket companies are using the China and india sourced parts - Autohaus is selling some of the junk. This will only hurt them in the long run.

I see no point installing a $30 part that will fail when the $100.00 part will last 10 years.

China I agree on. Doesn't an Indian company own Jaguar now?

Btw, I'm yet to have a problem with a Rock Auto part.

Interestingly -- I went to the Autohaus site to get the name of the parts company and they no longer sell any of the mounts.

I bet too many problems and/ or returns.

One of them is URO and the other is Dorman -- or something like that. I understand the appeal -- OE $102 URO is $28. People are having the URO motor mounts failing within a year!

The normal progression for Jaguars has always been similar -- as they age and get into the third and subsequent owners they tend to be bought and maintained on a different level. Always a little dangerous buying one from the third owner!

Mercedes is similar -- except that many more high quality aftermarket replacement parts are available -- so its not as big a problem.

I have no direct knowledge of this part -- but India is not known for quality auto parts.

I see your point and I myself am a bi fan of OEM parts, however these cars don't seem to retain their value all too well, so I'll take a gamble on the cheap parts. I also do all my own work so I'm not afraid of putting in extra time to swap them again down the road.

There, that proves it. All iphones are made in China, ergo all iphones are junk. Better tell Steve Jobs.

adam699 - Certainly less of a gamble when doing ones own work -- its another thing when paying for labor and you end up having to pay twice. I use Rockauto and Autohaus -- both good companies. I own quite a few German cars so I tend to use Autohaus more often.

I had a 996TT: I ordered and used it for an extended trip across the USA and Canada. Amazing car and very few problems during the 4 years that i owned it -- unbelievably bad radio. It's interesting that the upcoming "S" will have 400hp without the TT's. Also have a 64 TR4A w/250 rear -- so I know something about failing rubber parts.
