You got a point there. And I could always throw out the front seats and steer from the rear seat. It would be a tall mans XJ Coupe. Sort of.

And as you wrote, who wants passengers? Besides from slamming doors they have an annoying habit of talking when the v8 purrs.

The dialogue on here just shows that you guys
are a league of your own

Thanks very much. Great advice. I want to stick
to X308s, because who knows if I will find as much
technical help in the X350 section as I do here

I am currently eyeing black '03 R1s, I have a man
who is interested in picking up the XJ Sport for
asking price, after driving it today, on monday
morning when the banks open.

I will miss the XJ Sport dearly, and if the guy never shows
up I'll probably be relieved. If not, the exciting XJR
buy is in the next week, and I can't wait for the test
drives/ relief over that Mercedes gearbox (the ZF one
has been a worry of mine for a while, hated reading about
the rebuilds, A-drum faults).

I will post a pic of the new car if there is one. I'm still
deciding if 2-owner 70k is better, or 1-owner 92k w/gearbox
service @44k is better. They both are dealer-serviced
black R1s.

In January of this year I bought a neighbors 2002 Blue Zircon XJ8 with only 37K babied miles for $10K. I just couldn't turn that down.

The X308 is my favorite "practical" jag. I've had a 1975 XJ6, while beautiful, was just not a very good car (the wiring was designed by "The Prince of Darkness.") I've also had a 1982 XJS with an all aluminum chevy 350, but still, that did not compare to my 2002 XJR or 8.

As much as I liked the XJ8, I wanted much more power, so I was lucky enough to find another Blue Zircon (I like the color) 2002, but this time a XJR with 52K for $13,000. I have plans of adding approx 100 more HP.

So far, the XJR is everything I had hoped for. Classic Jag lines. Luxury. A complete and total sleeper. Quiet when I want it to be and very comfortable. Understated elegance which commands a certain amount of respect.

I was at a gas station (which these cars do frequent more often than the dime a dozen Prius) and I head an unsolicited loud "Now that is how a Jag is supposed to look!" from a Beautiful woman in a new Benz.

The stock suspension handles like a dream under hard demands and is very comfortable driving around town, not quite as an idyllic ride as my XJ8, but comfortable while keeping me completely in touch with the road.

The luxury of the interior and quietness of the ride are still 2nd to none. My passengers don't even know it has monster power until I gun it. I've had the "where did that come from" comment repeated more than once.

I agree with the other android cel phone users. The cel phones these days are way better than any in dash nav available today. I just push a button and say navigate to "blah blah" whatever Michelin 1, 2, or even 3 star restaurant is near by, etc, and it takes me there, with photos, etc. I use the windshield mount for ideal nav placement.

I trust you will come to love the X308 XJR as much as the rest of us have. Given the choice, I would prefer a 2003 over a 2002. Mine does have plastic tensioners that are scheduled to be replaced as the XJR-0220 tour comes through California.

Best of luck to you

I have plans on later painting my XJR this Bora Bora color (see attached pics)
