Mud flaps

Mud flaps
I purchased a set of factory mudflaps and I have a couple questions.
1. snow already gets really packed in the wheel wells now, will the mud flaps make it worse?
2. Will the mudflaps cause the sheet metal to rust under them?
3. can I remove them once they're installed? the little clip that holds them on has serrated teeth that seems like it would be hard to remove. I would want to remove them periodically and clean behind them.
Thanks for any insight into this!
also, does anyone have pics with them installed on their vehicle?

I have Factory flaps fitted to the rear on my XJ only. I was actually considering removing them to be honest. I think they're not on the front because of the arch being metal, however I imagine they may help prevent a snow build up. They clip on and off easily, but muck does build behind them so it would be worth periodically removing them to clean. I'll send you a pic of mine if you like. Hope this helps, S.

If I'm honest, and I am being here, I get mine off by shoving a big flat head screw driver into the space between the clip and the flap, and flick off the clip. It works, but to refit I squeeze it on best I can, then trim it into place with a pin hammer. Probs not how Jaguar would do it, but it works. I'll sort out some pics for you. S.

I've had the flaps on my 98 since 2002. I don't see rust being a problem on the rear as they are attached to the plastic bumper cover. On the front I don't have any rust issue at this time.
I found it was easier to install the flaps by trimming the tab on the rear so it folded flat. The flap appears to lessen the road rash on the rocker panel and the bumper.
I was able to remove them by the method described by Stu and found the easiest way to install them was with the use of channel lock pliers.
