I have what must be the dorkiest question;

Removed the interior cowling just inside the grille to replace a headlamp. To do so, I removed six or so of these plastic bolts...they unscrewed right out.

Now, looking to screw the cowling back on, none of the bolts seem to fit their respective holes? How do I screw these things back in? Am I having a brain fart preventing me from seeing the obvious?

Oops--posted to wrong thread.....X308 instead of X350...problem is with my 2005, not my 1998. I'll delete this, if I can find out how.

Are you sure they do not just push in? That is how the similar, engine cover fasteners work in my 2000 XJ8. (X308) Looks like a screw but, is not a screw.

(Just for completeness, as the info is in the other thread(s)...)
Once removed, they unscrew/press out, so the splayed part is not longer splayed. Then they slot in and you screw the central part in (causing a re-splay that holds the parts together).
