Smile My 2000 XJ8 has a Throttle Cable ????

I was just doing the weekly fluid levels and noticed the spool and cable on the side of the throttle body.?? After reading all about Sticky Electronic Throttles that No One could solve, I guess Jaguar retreated to the good old fashoned Throttle Cable until the problem was Solved. In my opinion, I am much better off.

I don't mean to burst your bubble, but I've got a 2000 XJ8 VDP and it's one of the ones that had the electronic throttle issue. Fortunately for me it seems it was just a cable problem. If you have something wrong with the TPS it appears that the solution is to replace the whole throttle body assembly, $1800 to $2500 just for the part.

I don't know when and what models they used drive by wire/electronic throttle control on, but my 01 XJR is mechanical. Quite frankly, I wouldn't want DBW if it didn't have odd issues - it's not as direct feeling. BMW switched to them in the E39 5-Series in 2001, 97-00 E39s had mechanical, 01-03 E39s had electronic: driven both, prefer mechanical over it by a long shot.

Agree, way to sensitive, you should be able to adjust the sensitivity. The biggest complaint I have with it.

Actually all the AJV8 engines have an electronic controlled throttle body, so the ECU determines to opening angle.

However the 4.0 engines (compared to the 4.2), have a cable going up to the TB, and there it servers 2 functions:

1) The position of the cable is measured and fed back into the ECU, which then controls the TB opening.
2) When in severe restricted performance mode there is still a mechanical link that will make it possible to open the TB by x% (maybe 30, forgot the %), when putting the pedal fully to the floor.

Andre.
