A new module will ALWAYS need to be configured to the car.

An old module may or may NOT need configuring. If the module is left sitting for an extended period of time it will lose configuration and need to be re-configured to the car.

You will get the INCORRECT PART FITTED in the INST PK. You then know that it will need to be configured (or it really is the INCORRECT PART FITTED).

Smile Success !

Have been "ABS, Trac Control, ASC error message free", thanks to my Son, for almost 5 weeks in no small part to info found here on the forum. To be clear, here is what he did: removed the ABS Control Module, without removing the brake lines, had to go buy an E-5 tool to remove the unit, carefully "cracked" open the casing, over-soldered the two pins, put the box back together and glued it with RTV Silicone for a nice waterproof seal, and, volla !

Bleeding brake lines??
Question to all
No mentions of bleeding all brake lines.
Can Abs pump module be removed, re-soldered and installed without need to bleed entire brake system?
.. before I remove Abs pump module..
Thanks

Yes you can, you just bend a couple of lines slightly to remove the module, and bend them back once reinstalled.

Default Did NOT bleed brakes

Bear in mind, this is an Electrical Issue, not mechanical. Brake performance was never in question, and, at least in our case, brake lines were NOT removed. Hope this helps. I'm no expert by any means, but always glad to share.

My mechanic said that the module he installed was a JLM20130 as was the salvaged abs module/pump assembly. Thanks for all of your helpful information.
And it's still working ok with no warnings or lights or codes?

You need to FIRST try to configure the module you repaired to the car. IF it will not configure because you damaged a component in the module, you will need a used replacement (new, if available will be almost $2000.00).

Unfortunately the 1997MY XK was the only year to use the JLM20129 or JLM20130.
1998 onward used different modules.
You will need to find out what module you have. (With Traction Control or EXCEPT Traction Control)
There are modules with 6 solenoids or 9 solenoids.
The 6 solenoid modules have 5 pipes going into the valve block. (JLM20129 EXCEPT Traction Control)
The 9 solenoid modules have 6 pipes going into the valve block. (JLM20130 With Traction Control)

A replacement module MAY or MAY NOT need to be configured to your car. I have seen replacements that plugged in and were good-to-go.
Other times they need to be configured as NEW modules.

Find someone with PDU, WDS, IDS, AutoEnginuity, AutoLogic etc.
They should be able to configure the module if it is not damaged.

Just an FYI: My wife ordered me an iCarsoft LR V2.0 scanner from Amazon...will be here tomorrow. I believe that used to be "Autologic" (when I searched Autologic it came up as iCarsoft). The earlier iCarsoft scanners like the i930 apparently won't pull up "older" Jaguar codes according to a long Q&A on the iCarlogic model and info pages. I think it said the change comes at 2004 and up for that i930, and the newer LR V1.0 and V2.0 scanners will read the "older" Jag codes. BUT...the ad says nothing about clearing "C" codes or re-configuring. We'll see if that's true tomorrow. The LR V2.0 is about $145-150. On sale for $135 and free shipping on eBay right now. I really liked the "AutoEnginuity", but they now start at $280. I will let you know if it really works.

Yes, similar situation for me, I had mine fixed by them three years ago and it was $45.00, I guess they figured out that what they do is worth a lot more, and I think they're right.

Not sure if you're referring to me, but my module has been re-soldered and reinstalled. The hard work to this whole ABS fix is not doing the "fix", it's doing the R&R. Even when done carefully, apparently the next cliff to fall off is whether or not the ECU will recognize the ABS module. I'm hoping I can find a scanner that will do it for me (and others) without taking it to the $hop.
