Looks good. I would check your octopus and valley hoses for their condition. On the XK8 now is the best time to do the bushings and shocks. With it on the table it is a 1000 times easier to do the job. Check transmission cooler lines for any wear, they sometimes rub on the steering and can leak. In general check everything now while it is easy to get to.

I am a bit overwhelmed with this project.. this is the direction I think I’m going to go. When I get the XJ8 over there on the lift I think I will use a hoist to get the motor out basically it’s a short block now anyway. And I plan to lift it up the top as the transmission has many less miles I plan to use it. So this new motor I just pulled out will be separated from the transmission is still functioning. I understand that they might have a different flex plate on the back of the engine or it’s possible they have the same one ? I thought I would replace the rear main seal before I install it back in the new car. Yes I had been counseled about the cooling lines under the manifold and the octopus and I agree a lot easier to change now. I just got an engine stand to borrow and I’m gonna go borrow a engine hoist so that he can separate both those I forgot to take out the three torque converter bolts when it was up on the lift damn. Oh well what doesn’t kill me makes me stronger

So I spoke to a former Jaguar technician and he could help me with what I wanted to do his point was if I took it out through the top I can leave the air conditioning and the power steering in the car then I don’t have to recharge them and taking it out the bottom was a big problem it seems like a huge mess with a lot of pieces. Anyway he says that when you start taking the motor out and get it up high enough you can get to The bolts and pulleys to the air-conditioning and power steering then when you do the reassembly and are dropping it back in that is when you can hooked everything back up it sounds good I’ve got this motor out of the car already so I get a chance to see how everything hooks up and what to look for I hope to get this XK running and it just wasn’t a waste of time

Aa Extreme heat in the northwest we got up to 100 days ago 97 yesterday anyway I need to stay out of the sun so says my dermatologist. I went out there tonight finally and got a few more things disconnected on it I ended up having to takeoff the catalytic converter‘s downspouts as they won’t letGet transmission bolts out. Then there’s so much stuff to go bolted the harness off of this one.The water system is so tight behind it well where the old down throttle body was anyway I have not given up we just gotten so hot around here

The XJ motor is back in this car everything is hooked up as far as I can tell and I went to test it tonight it did not start. So I dumped a little fuel in it through the throttlebody and it fired up then died I can hear the pump running or starting but I’m not getting any pressure at the Schrader valve it has a little fuel there but not much . I was really hoping for some progress as this has been a long ride. I went to go plug a OBD reader in at the usual spot at the xj8 No I got a find it I am not looking forward to a fuel pump change it it could be a fuel filter who knows

This is my second post for the night and then I’m clocking out on this project. I checked the Schrader valve and I’ve got 32 pounds of pressure lots of pressure when keys on. It gives me a P0197 and p1229. It will run if I don’t fuel in it but it will not stay running it has fuel at the Schrader valve but it will not start any ideas on what I’ve done wrong or that I might not have hooked up? I think I’ve got pretty good connections on everything but it is so tight. Even tighter than an XJ8. The differences between the two swapping the motor is minimal and as long as you have two cars or both engines you have the parts you need. But you have to use different hoses because of the low profile hood off of the radiator and other things like that just because of the low profile . And then they have a aluminum sub frame that puts the motor a little bit lower compared to the steel one from the XJ.

It sounds like because I did not swap the flex plates is how come this will not start and run apparently the XK had an updated flex plate and the XJ did not even though they were five months apart? If this is the case I will try to take it off the transmission rather than pull the motor again to swap the flex plate

So I will put in the car up on the lift today and taking out the crank position her and then I will count the holes on the backside this is where it’s all happening. Then I can pull the flex plate off of the second motor because it’s on the ground and I can count the two to compare it I guess I’ll get me an ink pencil in market then rotate it around completely slowly and count the holes that’s the only thing that Is what has been suggested to me
