My Jaguar XJ8 front end clunking noise...

Chasing the Clonk!
My front suspension is solid. Nothing worn or loose...yet the clonk persists...
At this point I am suspecting motor and transmission mounts.
So I will report back once I learn any more.

Yeah, me too. I was the one with the BFH trick for installing the rubber.
Ever winter, thereafter, loud, nasty clunking over bumps; quiet in the summer, tho. Vector pointed out the new Uro units were available under $50; bought, installed, quieted right side; found a Mahle for left; quieted everything, even at 10*F.

I've got "the clunk" and significant outer edge wear on the front tires, despite a great riding vehicle with what feels like perfect alignment.
Shock mount orange rubber looks "done for", my question is, besides the noise and tire wear, is there any other reason to repair this? Like, what happens if I delay repairing another year or two (it's been like this for some years already)

Hi
I have a 2000 XJR with adaptive shocks (CATS).
A few months ago my car start to make some noise on the front, clunk over the small bumps.
I made some investigation and found the shocks lower bushes in bad shape and the Anti roll bar link. I change them but the noise was there.
When i changed the shock bush i check them to see any oil lick or shock aging but found nothing. the sound was more pronounced in the morning or cold weather.
Today i found the problem, the noise was coming from the shock absorbers I found it by unplug them. The error come on my display but i remove the adaptive dampers computer fuse and all are OK now. The suspension it is stiffer now but i like it.
If any one have the same problem and have electronic shock absorber on his car he can check by unplug only one shock absorber, or remove the first fuse a 20 A locate it on small fuse box on engine compartment
Hope this will help other with the same problem annoying clunking noise
Best regards

Clonking Noise Solved!!
It took me a couple of months but I finally was able to spend some time with the X308 off the road and dug into the front suspension clonking noise which was making me nuts. The reason for the clonk?
Right front upper wishbone balljoint was shot. It moved like a joystick. While I had it apart I decided to replace the lower balljoint as well.
The lower balljoint did not want to come out after pounding but after soaking in PB Blaster and applying some heat I wanged it with a sledge and out it came.
All is now serene quiet with the Jag and life is good once more.
The reason I did not suspect the balljoints was because the tire/wheel didn't move at all when I had the front end jacked up. I had to take it apart to see how shot the upper balljoint was.
Hope this helps someone else.

The clunking noise is gone.
After I have replaced the front upper bushings from the shock absorbers the noise was still there. Yesterday I replaced the sway bar bush, the noise is gone. No clunking noise anymore from the front.
I want now to replace the lower balljoint and the lower front bush on the same wishbone. Those are not in good condition but no sound from that area, I want to replace them because are not in good condition. Next step is to replace in the back all bushes from differential strut. Still have some noise there.
