My XJR experience (so far)
I have now owned my XJR for a month, and have put around 2,000 miles on it so far.
I have been pleasantly surprised by the reliability of this car. When I bought it, I expected to have to use my wife's 1999 Sienna on occasion, when the Jag would throw a fit. That has not happened, as of yet.
I've had a few minor problems with it. This forum has been a tremendous help in diagnosing them. I learned how to clean the oil from the intake, how to clean the part load breather, and how to install a catch can for the oil. I also found the source of my vacuum leak. The vacuum line that runs from the throttle body to the firewall had broken of at the throttle body. One short piece of 3/8" fuel hose fixed that.
I still need to find the time (and the courage) to adjust the shifter cable, as I get a transmission fault if I shift out of park before the idle drops below 900 RPM.
I have put maybe $10.00 into fixing it so far, and she is running like a dream. I am averaging 22.5 MPG on this tank of gas, with mostly rural driving (and lots of quick passes). If I behave myself, I can get 25-26 MPG out of her on my 30 mile drive to work.
I am thoroughly impressed with this beautiful machine, and fall more and more in love with her every day!
I will post updates as they occur, and will try my best to help out owners even newer than myself, when possible.
