Default My XJR got wasted.

Just as was preparing to leave my place of employment, a good 'ol midwest spring storm came upon us out of nowhere. They went straight to announcing tornado warnings as they began forming directly above us, with a few reaching the ground not even a mile away.

Then the rain... and then came the hail. Baseball-sized (no joke, not exaggerating for the story) lugs fell for a good ten minutes straight. Depending on which way your car was facing in the parking lot, either your windshield was shattered (me) or your rear window was completely blown out, allowing the elements in. I think I was fortunate in that regard. But the Jag caved under the pressure of all the hail of that size. Even after the baseballs stopped, the golf ***** and peas continued for another 30 minutes.

It's a sad day. I had begun to sink some money to bring the car up to 100%, too. The upper shock bushing I talked about in another thread? ... sitting in the box on my countertop, ready to be installed.

I have it listed on eBay if anyone is interested. I know if I submit it to insurance they will declare it a total loss and take it away.

Sorry for your loss..
That was a clean car..
Hood, trunk and paint-less dent repair could go a long way..

That hood is creased badly. Paintless Dent Removal isn't going to help and the amount of dents would be astronomically expensive. I had slightly smaller hail hammer my Civic when I lived in Illinois. It was close to $5k damages and my glass wasn't broken.

I think I would start looking for another. Let the insurance have it (and see how much they want to buy it out of salvage). Or, find another, swap parts, call the insurance company.

You are selling the car over that?!?! Are you crazy?! It is still 100% mechanically sound.

Had something like that happen to my prior car from a tornado - that can be fixed for a few hundred bucks if you can find used-glass at a junk yard and another few hundred in body work (if you go with a cheap paint job at a scrap yard)

I'm replacing the windshield no matter what. I can't sell it the way it is and feel good about it -- this way the car will still drive as beautifully as ever, have a pristine windshield to boot, it'll just be Mr Lumpy as far as the body. So yes, for someone who knows how to do body work, this could be an easy "flip" for them. I don't have that ability, and with five kids don't have the patience to learn!

Ouch, that's devastating! I looked through the pictures linked on the eBay listing; with all the damage to various panels and trim that would be a tough call...

Definitely see what the insurance will give you first. Maybe it would be worth finding another and swapping the best parts.

My sympathies for your loss

Really sorry to hear about this. We had several bad hailstorms when I lived in Louisiana that destroyed 100s of cars, homes and stripped crops and trees bare. It really qualifies as an "act of God" beyond your control.

Can you give a summary of the common or outstanding X308 issues that have or haven't been corrected on this car such as tensioners, etc
.

I just lowered my asking price. I guess I don't know what I should be asking. Like I said, I'm having a new windshield installed tomorrow, so other than the body being wonky everything else is tip-top, drive anywhere. Would I be better off taking it to a wholesaler?

Let the listing run thru the weekend and see if you get any hits.
Just to see what was in your area for hood/truck I looked on car-parts.com and there is one hood in Nebraska, and one in IL with hail damage..
Went thru the rest of the pics and see pillar damage as well as door damage too. Good thing is the low mileage, asteroid wheels, clean interior. It's a great parts car..

Yes it did. Posted it locally and had about 10 interested parties swarm over it.
