Mystery? XJ8 stalls & will not run ..acting like fuel starvation
4 times my 2000 Jaguar has stalled and will not run. Acts fuel starved.
Mysteriously -- When engine is cold, the cat starts right up, as if nothing was ever wrong.
3 times have had to had my 2000 Jag Vandenplas towed to my home. Last week, the car refused to start after a 30 min drive in Los Angeles traffic. I "banged" on fuel filter, "jiggled" MAP sensor wires, to no avail. Low amt of fuel at Shraeder valve in fuel rail. Next had Jag towed home. Failed to start in driveway same day. 4 days later.. started as if nothing was ever wrong. Mystery !!! ... Repairs made: fuel filter replaced (7 days ago), fuel pump replaced (4 yrs ago), NOTE: Always seems to happen after car has been running 30 minutes or more in traffic. Jag temperature gauge registers normal does not seem overly hot.
(Temp Gauge: although these poor excuse for a gauges are not real gauges, only an elec switch disguised as a gauge)
2 weeks ago, did the same thing. Drove fine prior to stopping for 20 mins. Refused to start. Tow truck driver had idea to bang on fuel filter (above LF rear wheel). Car started and I fled for home. Next day replaced fuel filter. Car seemed fine for a week. In last week's incident, car did the same thing as before new filter. ... failed to start after a 30 min drive, Refused to start after repeated attempts and had to be towed home.
Please any ideas??
This is a low mileage, well maintained car.

Do you have this... JagRepair.com - Jaguar Repair Information Resource ...great source to review any repair or source a part. Also, do a site search for X308 Workshop, you should be able find the link to download the 2500 page repair manual. Here's a post by a vaunted member... https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/x...k-links-20090/ ...its has lots of useful info, even a link for step by step fuel pump removal. I know you said you replaced it once, just didn't know if you had done it yourself?

Something very similar has been happening to my friends X300.
You might want to check the following:
next time it happens open your fuel cap and listen to hear whether you
get a 'whooshing' sound from the fuel funnel.
If your carbon canisters or control valves are acting up they will create
a vacuum in the fuel tank which is akin to fuel starvation.
You should also run a fuel pressure check and should get 45 psi at idle.
You can do a check on the fuel pressure control valve by removing the
vacuum hose on the side.
The valve is located on the right side of the throttle body down below
on the end of the fuel rail.
You might want to also check that you fuel system purge valve is not acting up....this is quite often over looked.
It is situated directly behind the TB mounted on firewall.
Do a Little research and you will find answers ;o)

Hi,
This is my first post, so be gentle.
I had a similar symtoms. Started with a no start then would start next day, then no start again after a short drive. Stalling while driving then starting, Lumpy tickover in idle. It was recommended for me to check the Crank position sensor. Found it, removed it...in bits! The sensor had almost disintegrated. Changed it and all works well now. No fuel issues. Easy DIY repair, £30 part.
Worth a punt! I dont know if it will solve your problem but it certainly solved mine.
ps my engine is a '98 V8 supercharged.
