Navigation system on 2002 XJ8 330 Sovereign

Hi, I am new to this forum AND to Jag ownership.
I have a right hand drive 2002 XJ8 330 which originated from Singapore but I now have it in NZ.
The center console has all the buttons for both a phone and navigation although neither actually/physically exist. I am wondering what I need to do to get the navigation working. I've read a couple of threads that suggest I need to use the CD player to upload the software to the cars computer. Is that all it takes? Or is there more I would need to do? Does the vehicle already have some kind of GPS transmitter/receiver or do I need some additional kit?
I'd be grateful for any advice and apologise in advance for being not technically savvy.

Hi Paul welcome to the Forum. I have an XJR, with all of the buttons and like you was interested in adding the rest to make the NAV functional. The Forum showed me that it can be done, but in the end it really wasn't worth the cost and aggravation. You must add the separate NAV DVD player in the trunk for one; make sure it and the antenna are wired properly, and that the unit is initiated correctly so it will work. When you do finally get it to work, the common opinion is that the stock Jaguar NAV is not as good as what is offered today from the GPS aftermarket company's. For me it was this: If my car came with a working NAV would I use it? YES. Do I want it badly enough to take that time and spend the money to have something that is not as good as my current Garmin? No. In any case, that was my thought process; hope it helps one way or another!
Cheers!
Cheers!

Welcome to the forum Paul,
Good advice from Scott.
I have Jaguar Nav with up-to-date mapping software in my XK but use my SatNav in preference because the Jaguar system isn't anywhere as good! The 2002 vintage of Jaguar Nav will probably be even more disappointing.
