Default NEED HELP with 2001 XJ8 US Model

Here is what happened. Had my Tires changed. After change drove for 2 Miles and heard a pop on Passenger side. Car died and i pulled over. When turning Key nothing happens, Gearshift is locked in Park, Display on Dash states, Fail Safe Engine mode, Transmission Fault, Electrical Fault, ASXC not available, Low Brake fluid. When i try to turn the Ignition i hear a slight click on the Passenger side under the dash. the weird thing is that all was fine until i got the Tires changed

You might want to look in the trunk. The battery and modulesmand battery cables are back there, maybe the tire shop did something with the spare tire.

Can you pinpoint the noise location?

All of those items happen when the battery dies - although I don't see how that would happen when the car was running.

I would check for a main wire harness failure -- look in the trunk and also at the junction under the hood on the passenger side as it comes through the main ECU compartment. Im not sure if the car has a main relay that would cause this -- some cars do.

I had a fusible link go on a Japanese many years ago that did the same thing

Well no not really. It may not have enough power to run the cars starting and charging system but it will still be able to power the radio. You can power a car stereo off a 9V battery. But check the battery cables and check if the fuel cut off switch hasn't been tripped by accident.

My post was not to imply that your battery died - Rather to indicate that many of the items you list happen when a battery fails and the cars electrical system experiences low voltage. The car is sensitive to low voltage. That is why I said to check the main lines from the battery.

The electrical system in the XJ is very complicated -- it has untold fuses and relays. I am not sure how many main power relays are in the car. You could have had a failure of a main relay or some other short -- but for all the components you had go out it must be in one of the main lines. The one I indicated under the hood has been a problem for some and is often corroded.

You could have a failing battery in addition to this problem -- but normally you do not have evidence of this while driving.

Not sure how much of the car is disabled with the fuel/ crash safety - I believe the starter still works?
