Default Need new tires.. Any suggestions?

Hi guys, im going to need new tires real soon, so I was wondering if you guys had any suggestions on the type of tire i should go with. I currently have the bf goodrich g-force. I love the tires performance and they look cool too. But they are a bit pricey for me. Would there be a substitute for the g-forces without loosing performance and durability, for less money? Your suggestions will be appreciated. thanks

I personally like Michelins

You may look at the "Falken" brand tire. They are made by either Michelin or B.F.G. I can't remember at the moment but I do know they are a quality tire at a resonable price......

You may check the local Sam's Club/Costco

one thing I would ad: As Oil prices rise, so will rubber production. So I would act fast

Continental Conti Extreme Contact - see http://tinyurl.com/e2xn - have served me well; not the most grippy at the limit, but perfectly adequate for street use, excellent in rain, wear well, and much less expensive than many competitors.

For the money it's hard to beat the General Exclaim UHP in the 255/40-18 size. It has great treadwear, handling in ok as it has soft side walls for a low profile tire. It's made by Continental who now owns General Tire. TireRack has the best price.

I use tirerack.com to compair the different tires that fit my car. Right now I have the Goodyear Eagle F1 on the front, and the Eagle GT on the rear. So far so good with these tires. Read the reviews on the tires you maybe interested in, and hopefully you'll like what you end up buying. Good luck.

+1 on using Tire Rack's survey results for comparisons. Actually, +1 on using Tire Rack for your purchase.

May I be so bold to say you have an XJR so you don't want to necessarily find the least expensive tires. It's important to ride on something that will handle the XJR's power. There are several good choices out there depending on what is most important, performance vs price. You are always going to get what you pay for and usually the low end $ are not going to give you the bang for the buck if you are a "spirited" driver. Go with good quality that won't put you in danger at high speed. Use a site like them to narrow down what will work best for your driving style and the car itself.

bridgestone potenza RE960A/S Pole Position -- it's a good tire, not pirelli expensive, but not cheap either. you get what you pay for in a tire.

Usually but not always. The original P-Zeros that came on my car were junk. The best performing tires I've had on my XJR were Michelin Pilot Sports and the longest wearing were the Pilot Sport A/S.

I just replaced the Pirelli P-Zeros on my XJR with a set of Michellin Pilot Sport AS Plus. The difference in ride, tracking, comfort and noise is absolutely amazing. It's hard to believe it's the same car. Seriously. I didn't realize that my P-Zeros sucked so bad until I put these on. Tirerack has them for $225ea.

Default Bought some today

Just got 4 new Michelin Primacy MXV4's today from Costco's out the door for less than $600. That is including the $70 coupon they are currently offering.
Tirerack highly recommends these for my 03 xj8.

Big difference between XJ8's 225-60-16 and XJR's 255-40-18's with regards to costs, IE Michelin Pilot Sports in 16's cost $134; $290 for 18's

Thank you guyz for all the feedback. Ya tire rack is great. Ordered my tires Thursday late afternoon and they said I would get them the following Tuesday because of the holiday. He asked me if i wanted to pay extra to get them in by Sat. thought about it and decided i would just wait till Tuesday. Next day early afternoon get a knock on the door, open the door, and there were my tires. One day..love it!

+1 on the P-Zero's being VERY loud compared to other tires. Also, there is a grinding feeling when driving that other tires don't have. Sounds and feels like a wheel bearing going out.

I may try the Goodyear Eagle F1 All Season next... $184 each and:

Treadwear: 420
Traction: AA
Temperature: A

Default The $1000 dollar question.......

I had P-Zeros on my XJR and they sucked. I got a pair of Continental Conti Extreme Contact and have loved em. I got two pair off of e-bay and the other two locally on clearance so I couldn't tell you how much they really should cost. TireRack had some good prices when I first looked. I know that the Continentals are not nearly as expensive as the P-Zeros.

What did you get brg? Just curious, i put Falken FK452s (19s) and have been really impressed over the Pirelli p-zero rossos that were on mine. Are yours 18s?
