Need to say good-bye to my 2001 Jaguar XJ8
Hello, I am a senior citizen from Georgia with a 2001 XJ8 with 154,000 miles on it, so forgive me if my question sounds stupid or silly. I have driven it consistently for 19 years and kept it maintained by the dealership until extended warranty expired, and then a specialty shop for major issues and my "go-to" mechanic for minor issues.
I posted back in April seeking advice about the need to replace my shocks.
Well, since then, she totally stalled out in June. I took it to the closest repair shop. The problem involved cranking, but no start until multiple attempts and shutting down after starting. I was told, "it's the 'cats' (after mechanic ordered parts, he told me it's NOT cats, its the crankshaft. After crankshaft replaced, he said it's also the fuel pump, which he replaced. When I picked it up, he told me "it's now driving better than it probably ever has! (NOT, TRUE)" WHEN I WENT TO START THE CAR TO TAKE IT HOME, STILL HESITATION ON CRANKING! He said, it might be the spark plugs. Apparently, he didn't check them.
By then, I had no confidence in this shop's ability to fix the car. Long story short, I took her to a foreign car repair shop that I have used in the past. I am awaiting a $$$$ repair estimate.
Even though I LOVE my car, I think it's time to to take her off life support (and keep me out of the poor house!) and let her go. I bought a new Honda during this time, so I have alternate transportation.
QUESTION: Any suggestions of how to do send my Jag off into the sunset?
Sell privately? Is there a market for older Jags? Do you think anyone would buy a car this old and needing costly repair? Sell to a car junk yard for parts?
ANY and ALL advice/suggestions/comments appreciated. Thank you!
