On my salvage yard hunt on Saturday, I found a good condition rear view mirror from a 2000 XJ8 Sport.
When I got home the connector was different, so I swapped the connector from the old to the new mirror. Finding the new mirror did not have one wire, that my 1998 had, which is a brown wire.
I connected it and it seems to work find, can somebody tell me what the brown wire is for in the 1998 XJR.
Thanks,
SGB

I bought a 2003 XJ8 mirror at the Junkyard for $12 to replace the frosted one on my '98 XJ. My '98 mirror Plug had the brown wire, but the 2003 XJ8 mirror did not. I just got the pins swapped and will plug it in tomorrow.
I'll let everyone know how it works out.

Here's the pinout that I found from when I was looking into replacement mirrors for my '99. Don't think the brown is used for anything, not even sure what it does... The words in quotes are what was printed on the OEM mirror PCB.
oem

2-grey-reverse interrupt
3-blk-ground
4-yellow-"cell" -output to exterior dimming mirrors?
5-green-"ti s" -auto headlight trigger?
6-brown-"hood"- ???
