Default Needing your help.

Hi all,

I've been reading on some of the posts here and see that some members have some great info on putting LSD onto a 1998 and up XJR. I have a 1998 XJR and would like to put that on. I am fairly new to Jags and have no clue on how to take out the diff and drop it into my 1998. A family friend of mine who is an older gentleman, is parting his 1997 xjr. Unfortunately, he doesn't work on cars himself so he can't advise me on how to take it off. And from what I have read, that year and model have the LSD and should drop right into a 1998 xjr. I have searched this forum but have not found any thread on how to take the diff. off of the 1997 xj, Does anyone know of a thread on here or somewhere that shows how to take it out as I have asked him to hold that for me and not sell it. OR Will anyone please provide me with any info on how to take it out and what other parts are needed to fit it in perfectly. If you do, please help direct me to the right place. Thanks much in advance.

Welcome to the forum.
Is the 1997 XJR a X308 (V8) or a X300 (Inline 6 or V12)?
I think this might be important. Not sure if the X300 differential will fit in a X308.

Also for other forum members that might not know that LSD differential means Limited Slip Differential.

With a bit of fiddling the diffs have been interchangeable from the mechanical side, the bigger issue is that the ratios are different and therefore the transmission needs re-programming (for aroundabout $2500, no misprint).

The best option is to buy an aftermarket LSD center from Quaife, which will bolt up to the existing gears in the X308 diff. They are available in the UK via Racing Green Cars and TL Jaguar.

Thanks guys for the quick response. It is a x300 inline 6. I plan on getting the re-programming, but you recommend going with the aftermarket instead? Thanks
