Neutral Safety/Steering Column/Side Mirrors
This happened last week while at the gas station. After pumping gas got back into the car (1998 XJ8) to go, the shifter would not release into Drive, and the tilt on the steering wheel stopped working. I was able to forcefully get it into Drive. However now the steering tilt and mirror controls don't work. I can hear a clicking sound and the Wheel will move up and down by it self. Any Ideas?? Is there some kind of Module that controls these? Thanks in advance

That is a strange combination?
How did you force the transmission? The car does have an interlock with with the key and brake pedal .....are your brake lights working?
The mirror control also has a "one touch" system when you move the gear selector into reverse -- it will dip the right mirror to see the curb - to aid in parking ------ so if you have a selector switch problem may be that is doing something wit system module -- that is the only thing I can thing of that links the mirrors - wheel memory and the gear selector.
