Default new engine and 21 error codes. Fixed

I finally found and had a new used engine installed in my 2000 XJ8. However it ran horrible and when hooked up to an ob2 scanner it had 21 faults. What could cause this? I installed new 4 electrode plugs and new chain tensioners too.

You need to post a full list of the 21 codes or this is just a guessing game.

Go over all electrical connections again, from front to back. Was the trans changed too?

On the top of the trans are O2 connectors, on the throttle body there are a number of connectors, also vvt, knock sensors, temp and oil pressure sensors, Maf sensor etc. All of which need to be plugged in. Perform a hard reset also.

We need to know the codes!

More dissapointing than having a new engine that doesn't run the next issue is that my mechanic went on his scheduled vacation this week. One more week till he gets back on it. ARRRRGGGGGGG. When I saw so many codes I just took it to the mechnaic for him to repair. I paid for a working engine. That many codes indicated a faulty connection somewhere, in my opinion. The ABS light is on also Could this be part of the issue or the problem?

You mean once the ABS is working the other codes might disappear?

Is the battery fully charged ? Have you tried a hard reset ? After that reset the OBD codes and get back with whatever pops up. And get rid of those 4 electrode plugs - whatever they are - and get the proper iridium ones.

I took my jag for a test run today. Most codes are gone but..... ASC is not available, Trac is not available, Abs light is on. code 0102 Maf/ vaf, code 0112 IAT low input, 1000 Fuel air, auxilary inputs. Brake lights do not work. Reverse and turn signal lights do.
Any ideas now? It ran good for a while but started coughing as I was getting nearer to the garage. My mechanic will be back next week, finally.

Hi tilbury
Look at this other current thread with some of the same DTC fault codes as yours (it has information and possible solutions to many of them).

https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/x...problem-77472/

Look at post# 13, post# 10, post# 8 and post# 6

I thought I had this posted a week ago but I guess it didn't take.
I have the Jag back but I am still getting the ABS warning, trak not available and asc not available. I have checked the abs plug and I am getting proper readings from the pins for the wheel sensors. What else can I try. I'm tired and going broke letting my mechanic have a go at it.
I also had code P1000 aux emission, fuel & air metering and 0455 emission leak ( large) show up yesterday. I cleared the codes and they haven't come back on yet. It's a great car but it's starting to **** me off.

Sounds like ABS pump solder joints (if the abs warning light is sold) they need a resolder,

Thanks go to Dsetter for the original post...

We have come to the end of this thread. I rebuilt the module and resoldered the joints. No more error codes. I'm feeling good today.
Big increase in performance without those Bosh 4 electrode plugs gone too.

Good news and thanks for 'closing' the thread. So often folk fix the problem and don't b***dy well tell us. Can be very frustrating.
Enjoy your 'new' car.

Result.

You had so many codes and code clears with this issue, it'll be good to see if on-board monitoring completes now and you then get P1111 with no other codes set.

Could take a while to complete the required drive cycles.
