Default New Jag Owner with several questions

This is a great forum. Did a lot of reasearch on this site before I pulled the trigger. Just bought 2000 XJ8 VDP, 66K miles. Car is smooth and drives great.

Some small items I need to repair include,
1.0 Driver side door will not open from inside
2.0 Large leak from wiper fluid bottle
3.0 Rear center brake light unglued
4.0 Small part of headliner sagging

Nothing too terrible, but owning a Jag is well worth it.

My question is: What type of service should be done on a car of this age, and mileage? Oil was just changed, but can't verify what else was done? Also, does the front bumper have top come off to work on the wiper bottle.
Doing reasearch it appears my engine number has the 2nd generation tensioners, and is Nikasal free. Should I replace these tensioners or just enjoy the ride. No rattle signs at start up Yet. Thanks in advance.

Hi Keltam

Firstly, congrats on your purchase, a good decision!
To obtain a full report on what work has been carried out on your Jag, I would approach your Jag dealership who will be able to run your VIN through their database.
It would also be a good idea to find out if there are any outstanding recalls due on your car.

As to your tensioners, if in doubt, get a Jaguar Specialist to inspect them for wear, it is possible that these might be ok, but to get that peace of mind, get them checked..

66k is hardly worn in, in terms of miles, but - with my own XJ8 - which is spoilt rotton, I would look at replacing the water pump/thermostat and possibly the spark plugs dependant on their condition, ball joints and/or wheel bearings are also worth considering as our type of car does eat these componantes quite quickly..

Money spent now, is money saved later in my book.

Hope this helps.

I too had a leak in my wiper fluid reservoir, found I could access the tank/reservoir from the passenger side fender well. It appeared that (it was the pump but not really sure what the component) was pressed fit into the lower portion of the tank where the leak was coming from. I pulled it out (meaning the pump) and drained the remaining fluid so everything was dry, applied some black silicone and it has not leaked since.
