Question New Jag XJR owner, have some questions about parts

Hey y'all

So as of last Friday i'm a proud owner of a 1999 XJR with 51,930 miles
Car looks great and I got a great price on it.

I bought the car knowing there are four issues and two just went away after driving 20 miles (even better)

Broken parts
1. I have a right front headlight lens that's broken dealership wants $198 + Tax on it, does not seem like a fair price (please correct me if i'm wrong) and do you know if anyone sells aftermarket ones?

2. The illusive cup holder is broken on one side, any tips and tricks on a quick repair?

Thing that were fixed
1. GAS Smell in the car (just went away) when I took the car it was almost on E after a full fill up don't have the bad smell no more
2. ABS light was on while testing the car and again just went away after 20 miles and never came back since (although I just put another 150 miles on it)

Thank you for any assistance...
Yeshai

Forgot to add (or find the edit button) it's a hell of a big change from a Grand Marquis

you can probably get a cheaper headlight on ebay, and there are lots of ways to fix the cupholder, sometimes it can be glued, sometimes it is better to get a new one, ebay is your friend here again.

If the gas smell thing happens again you may want to look in to that, a gas leak is not something to mess around with

The ABS light can be annoyed by many things on this car, there are sensors that can get dirty in the wheels, and the "ABS Module" or something like that can be faulty. Luckily to fix the module if that is a problem doesn't cost much and you can do it yourself I have heard. If the light doesn't come on again then it could just be a typical jaguar electrical gremlin

I can imagine that it would be a big change from a grand marquis, almost doubling your horsepower and a major handling improvement, although I am personally a huge fan of the ford panther platform

You can check our vendors , you might find a good deal
NALLEY
JPAM

For cup holders :
Yours is way different but if you can find a replacement with the metal hinges ,go for it . This is what recommended to X300

Default Aveages $300 for Pair of used XJ headlights

Hello and welcome
Here is a snapshot of the JEPC (Jaguar Electronic Parts Catalog) page for Headlamp Assembly:

New Jag XJR owner, have some questions about parts-xj-headlight-headlamp-parts.jpg

I found both of the headlamp assemblies using the part numbers from JEPC:

Gaudin Jaguar ( www.gaudinjaguarparts.com/ )
Item Number -MSRP -Core - Price
LNC4620AA $174.30 $0.00 $130.73
LNC4621BA $174.30 $0.00 $141.61
plus shipping $16.74 for
LNC4620AA

You should call Nalley Jaguar - (1-800-846-0030 ) another forum sponsor - for competitive total price - 15% discount for all Jaguar Forums members - Free UPS Ground shipping on all orders over $25.

Best price used I found was Ebayer Tom's Foreign Auto Parts $299 buy it now price or best offer for headlight unit that includes both main beam and outer dip beam headlamps. plus shipping $9.99
You can also call them (800-973-5506) they are located in Waterbury CT

I purchased a set of 4 star burst rims for our 2001 XJ8 there a few months ago - they have a good reputation locally (I talked the price down about 40% - were $75 each rim - bought 4 rims for $180)

HEADLIGHT Jaguar XJ8 1998 98 1999 99 00 01 02 03 Right | eBay

Hope this helps

I loved that Merc!!!
Drove it for three years and put 50k miles on it without any! whatsoever issues.
Breaks, Tries, Oil and that's that... but my wife thought it was toooo old for me.

Only major complaint I have on the Jag is the turning circle....

Just as an FYI there is a used car part dealer here in Plano TX
All Star Auto
1100 Summit Avenue #109
Plano, TX 75074
(972) 294-7021

I was able to get the headlight only for $65 (although I took the wrong one the first time around)
Thanks for all the help

I used a pair or nylon hinges for an RC aircraft rudder, flaps etc. I got at a local hobby shop they are small yet strong. Each hinge is in two pieces like a for hinge with a brass pin to connect the two parts. I uses CA glue to get the hinges set in the proper places. Once the glue set. I used small 2mm hex screws also from the hobby shop to guarantee the security of the hinges. I did this in June of 2011 and it works perfect. It cost me about $6.00 and I still have 8 sets of hinges.
