Also gotta replace the driver door speaker grill and find a good driver side floor mat since my anchor point is torn and I always push it under the dang gas pedal.
Nice to see everything you're doing. If you happen to find a source for a good driver side floor mat, please let us know. It's my only missing mat! Also the speaker suggestion sounds great--my pass side speaker seems to "squawk" a bit when the volume is up over 20.

I do a lot of high end installs and speaker reviews over the years. Everything from $80 Alpines to $22,000 Focals for the automotive world. The speakers that impress me the most and what I run in my other cars are Stereo Integritys. If I just replace the door speakers with the SI TM65s they will play down to 30hz without issue and are super clear all the wat to 10,000hz with no beaming at 2500hz. Love the speakers. Pkus they are super shallow and handle 300 watts like nothing but are pretty effecient so even the Jags stock amp will drive them well. They play much lower than the OEM subwoofer. Best part is they are only $240 a pair!

Thanks for the added info. I checked out the speakers on the manufacturer website and they look like they'd work well for me, but i know almost Zero about audio systems. A couple of questions:
1) is speaker replacement a relatively easy DIY on the XJ8?
2) if I were to replace the front speakers, would the rear speakers need to be taken care of as well?

Very easy. Just remove the door card (its on the forum how to) and just clip the wires and run to new speakers that will bolt directly to the door card.
I am going to do the fronts first and see how it does. I will probably end up adding rears as well since I will also be using them for bass. I imagine I will also end up replacing the pillar tweeters. Alas the SI tweeters are way too large. I will probably get some thin line Audio Development tweeters since they make spectacular sounding super tiny tweeters that will pop right in. Just have to use the oem capacitors for high pass. AD tweeters should only be 150ish but may not need them. The Alpines have decent highs but midrange and bass is really bad which the SI TM65s will correct very well.
I am running the SI TM65s, M25 tweeters and BM MK V subs in my truck and it is truly an amazing sounding setup. Just a bit louder and more detailed than my full Klipsch Reference setup I have at home with over 4000 watts.

So, did you leave the Original SubWoofers in place?
Or did you disconnect them since these SI TM65s handle low frequencies better?
I have Alpine & have avoided doing anything, yet, to my defective subs since they are so difficult to access. (Remove rear seats & lift parcel shelf & probably break plastic clips & seat belt parts, etc).
My plan is to eventually access the twin subs, remove them & take them to a car audio shop to repair them. But, if they are not repairable, to replace them is difficult since they are so shallow. I wonder if the SI TM65s would be a suitable replacement?
The SI would be a good replacement if you can get you hands on a MK 1 version as they are DVC. As for me, I havent installed them yet. When I do I will just turn the sub all the way down. Also I am only aware of a single 6x9 sub in the car which you can get a recone kit from speakerworks

I had saved an old thread that was NOT for my 2000XJ8 but, was for 2003-2009 X350 & X358 which apparently have 2 subs!
I’m hoping mine just needs to be reconed & I can either DIY or take it in somewhere since I have never done this b4 & it is so difficult to access if I make a mistake in the repair.
On my 99 I bought the kit. Really easy to use. Hardest part was getting to the sub. Rear seat, C pillar covers and rear deck have to come off to get to it. It did sound better afterward but I am 99% sure the TM65s in the doors will have much much more bass than that sub could ever make. In my truck on a lot of songs I can shut down the pair of 12" subs and not care. I have them high passed at 43hz and the bass from the doors will make your pant leg flutter.
Laser, I know that these speakers were discussed before but I’m wanting to know if it can be used with the factory amp. My 98’ XJR has the factory Harmon Kardon system but I’m wondering if the amp can run these speakers. I am aware of the ohms from the factory 6x9 vs the ones listed below but I was just wondering since I’m not an audio buff.
Problem is they are s ingle voice coil. I do not know if the factory amp summons the signal or if it feeds the sub with a left/right signal. If its mono, sure. If not then it wont work well. Also if it is a mono signal you will lose power on an SVC speaker.
I searched long and hard with my last Jag and never found any proper DVC 6x9s that would work. Classic auto sound does make a DVC 6x9 but they sound like trash, no bass at all.
This mornings upgrade. I was actually surprised with this one. Not only does the car feel better being tossed in a corner but the squeaks from the back seat are gone. Whole car feels more rigid.
Still waiting on the pulley puller but had a few minutes to install the intake. Love hearing the blower noise now. I dont like having a metal intake pipe though. I think I may wrap it.
