New member, long time Jag lover needs a new AJ26s or alternative
Hello fellow Jag enthusiast. I have a 1999 XJR that has cracked piston. I had just finished installing new timing chain tensioners and front seal with valve cover seals. Before cranking her up i decided to inspect the cylinder boars with a bore scope cam. I found a cracked piston. Can any of you direct me to where i can find a replacement engine? I'm in South Florida. I'm $2500 (Including original purchase) into it and feel that it might be worth getting her back on the road. I believe this is a nikasil engine. Can it be honed if there is any cylinder damage. I think it might be rebuildable with a new piston. If a replacement 4.0 is required, so be it. I'm not opposed to 4.2. Just need a little direction on where I could source a motor. I have done a lot of research on this forum and the info here has been amazingly helpful. This community has shown to be a great place for people who love these cars and I seek your wisdom with getting my X308 back on the road.

There's a yard in Miami that has lots of Jags, they are on this site if they have what you want...Car-Part.com--Used Auto Parts Market
Have you done a compression test, that would be your tell all? I would also ask someone like Plums to take a look at that to see if he can verify that.

I was able to do a compression test and this cylinder is very low. I would like to salvage this block so i'm hoping to source a piston and replace it. Do you have the contact info for this yard in Miami that has our fallen brethren?

You are limited on replacement engines as the R types have lower compression pistons. If the cylinder is not damaged replacing the piston is the best choice, but you can't hone the cylinder walls.
You may be in luck with the nikasil liners, they're very hard and may not be damaged.

I hope so. The bore scope footage was limited in angle so i'm hopping that the bore isn't too bad.

No, sorry, but they have come up a number of times when I've been looking for little parts here and there. I'd do a search for a motor on that site and see the cost vs a rebuild. They do warrant such things and your turn around may be quicker and possibly cheaper or the same amount. I think I got my girls motor for her Saturn Sky from them about a year ago after she tried to play U-boat commander in a TX storm (hydrolock)....grrrrrr.
You may only need to do the piston and get away with it also.
I would, IMO, redo all the rings and probably the bearings if I wanted that block...also not knowing how many miles you have on her, ...but a good look at the valves wouldn't hurt since its apart.
