New Member with XJR questions
Hello All,
I hope to be a new member of the Jaguar ownership club by next weekend. After a long search and passing over various R100 models I have found a quartz / black 2003 XJR with only 66K miles on it. While I have not personally seen the car I will travel to Texas to pick it up next weekend. I have had my eye on 02 and 03 XJRs for some time and finally plan to pull the trigger. I am selling my 05 BMW 325 coupe to get it - I hope I will not be disappointed. I do have a few questions for members if you will be kind enough to lend me your thoughts:
1. I will be purchasing pending a pre-purchase inspection. the car is in Lewisville Texas, any recommendations on places to have a PPI completed?
2. When doing the PPI, are there specific things that I should ask them to check for? I had an air cooled 911 and was very specific in my inspection request. Given that 03 XJRs have the bullet proof transmissions, no tensioner issues or nikosil liners, what are the big trouble spots I need inspected?
3. I really prefer the look of the european versions without the leaper and with black drip rails. Have any of your removed the leaper and anodized / blackened the drip rails? How did it turn out?
4. Any potential ownership considerations would be very appreciated.
5. Any chance any of you live in the Lewisville / Dallas area and are familiar with this specific car?
Thanks in advance and I look forward to enjoying the car.

Hello
We have forum member motorcarman (Bob Gauff) who has a shop in Decatur Texas. Looks like about 42 miles from Lewisville Texas. His profile lists his occuption is Jaguar Mechanic. His phone is 940-393-5979 (it was in one of his visitor messages).
motorcarman has provided first class technical advice on this forum.
The Throttle Body seems to be an issue in all of the XJ (X308) models including XJR.
Look at this forum thread "My 2003 XJR Just Went Into Limp Mode":

There are few electronic shops that rebuild them at reasonable prices. I just had my throttle body rebuilt this week (2001 XJ8) at ATE (Auto & Truck Electronics) in Rodgersville, Tenn for $326. They are also known as ASI (Automotive Scientfic Inc).
