New Owner Got No Audio

New Owner Got No Audio
Hallo all.
Picked up my new pride and joy on sunday.
Sorry another shameless picture bragg!
Couldn't help myself ! :-)
Have got very few probs except the stereo doesn't work. The previous owner told me about it so it wasn't unexpected. I started by inspecting the nav and cd changer drive in the boot and neither of them would eject or show any signs of life. So i removed the head unit and found the unit was completely unplugged, so obviously the previous owner had a go at fault finding and got nowhere.
I plugged everything back in and the 2 drives in the boot where now showing signs of life, the nav drive would now eject the cd and the changer would eject the cartridge, but as for the head unit....nothing. It doesn't even turn on. It might also be worth mentioning that the previous owner had the car sitting for about a month and the battery went flat, so had to put a jump pack on it. But have checked the battery since and appears to be fine and holding a charge.
Then i hit the handbook and checked all the fuses that it indicated were associated with the audio. The fuses all seemed fine but replaced them anyway just to be on the safe side, but still nothing from the head unit. SO before i either smash it to bits or tear my hair out, anyone got any ideas? After the searching Ive done on the internet this seems to be a fairly common problem after the battery has either been flat or disconnected, but there appears to be nothing else i can try. Help needed please peeps!

Let's eliminate the simplest first. I had a lengthy exchange of PM's with an X308 owner about a non functioning head unit - until it transpired he was turning the volume control to try powering ON instead of pushing it.
Check for power at the head unit harness connector to determine whether it's supply or unit at fault.
If you do get it to power ON, after a battery disconnect you will need the 4-digit security code to unlock it. All OE X308 UK radios have a security code. The display will show Code _ _ _ _

Thanks for the replies people. I'm not even getting as far as entering a code. I am defo pushing the volume knob and nope, no power. As for testing the power, i haven't got a voltmeter, all i have is one of those screwdriver type testers that light up when you get a currant. Also, i followed the information in my handbook in relation to the fuses and their location however, i was looking at the results of a google search and it said that there were 5 fuses in the boot that relate to the audio. Can anyone confirm if this is correct.
It said
fuses 3,4,12,22 and 9. Apparently fuse 9 is for the antenna and if this is wonky it can cause the head unit not to work. And apparently relay no.7. Anyone know if this is correct as it doesn't seem to correlate to the info in the manual

Phil,
The options are:
1. guess
OR
2. test
As I said in #4 above, you need to determine whether you are getting power to the radio harness connector to be able to determine whether it's a power supply or a head unit issue.
If it's power supply, then you can check for a break in the harness back to the fuse.
If it's head unit, the options are repair or replace. Used head units are cheap from specialist Jaguar breakers and this would be the lower cost solution.

I tested the power supply going into the unit and all appears well, the head unit is getting power so i thought it may be a dry joint or something. I removed the head unit and dismantled and re soldered every single joint and.....nothing. Still no power. Interestingly though, the morning after i put the head unit back in i noticed there was a strange low pitched quiet wining noise that appeared to be coming from behind the dash. Upon closer inspection, it was actually coming from the head unit itself! Christ knows whats wrong with it but it looks like a replacement unit is on the cards. Everyone i know has said to me i might as well put an aftermarket unit in there but i want to keep it stock.
Anyone know the best place to get one. I looked on ebay and its full of the standard cassette and changer type, but there aren't many nav types on there, and most need decoding.
