Question New security module won't program keyfob + 1 brake-light not working

Just replaced the security module with a refurb'ed one, do I have a defective unit?

The remote-keyfobs won't program - I can get the car to light up the shifter-gate LED (via flash hi-beams 4x routine) and make the 2-beep confirmation at the end, but there is no beep or sound when I press buttons on either of the two keyfobs during "programming" and they don't work at all afterwards (both fobs worked prior to me frying my last security module.)

Also, one brakelight is not working now (it worked prior to my flooding-incident that fried the security module) and there is a yellow-light-warning on the dash whenever the brakes are applied "check rear lights". The same bulb works fine for the low-power lights that come on with the headlights. I have tried 3 different bulbs in the socket and all the same, so the bulb is not the issue.

All the other security-module features that I am aware of seem to work fine (power doorlocks, trunk button, etc.)

Check all your fuses but it sounds like you got a defective unit

There are 2 different SLCMs for X308.

If you have replaced a later one with an early one then the remote keyfob transmitter 'WILL NOT CONFIGURE' to the SLCM.

You might have to purchase an early model transmitter to be compatible with the replacement. Check the part numbers.

The replacement SLCM has a faulty brake light semiconductor so one brake light is INOP.

Thank you

The part number matches, but the unit was supposed to be a #008 variant to match my car and has a hand-written #4 written on it, could that be the issue with the keyfob?

My vehicle is a 2002, is there any way to tell the year of the SLCM? From what year do I need for the keyfobs to work, 2000+?

re: The replacement SLCM has a faulty brake light semiconductor so one brake light is INOP.

Is that a definite conclusion, or is there another place that I should check on the car? All the fuses have been checked and are intact.
