Coventry Whitleys, 18x8.5, black with chrome lip. 255/40/18 Falken Azenis 722s, R centercaps. I wasnt able to get it done before the car wash closed, so the car is filthy. Note the deep dish, and that the new offset sticks the wheels further out and even though theyre really stock size, they fill out the fenders MUCH better than the stock wheels. Im thrilled!!
I think that 18" still looks natural on these cars, especially if you maintain some sidewall by keeping the outside diameter of the tire as per original (which you almost reach).
I have 20s on my Lexus, but they look right on that car. Its a lot taller and bulkier, these cars are a lot lower, wide and lean, and low to the ground. I think going over 18 inches wouldnt look natural enough. Luckily though the offset still filled it out a lot better than before. Lowering it is on the list as is a pulley upgrade.
Guys, you see how my front and rear windshield surrounds are chrome, but my A, B, C and D pillars/window surrounds are all black? They should be chrome and someone has painted over them to make them black, right?

Also your bumper covers.
Surely ppl. out there who are jealous on what you got.
I remember a recent post on someone who did the same (or perhaps the same car?).
Yeah figured those parts of the bumpers had been painted too. Im trying to decide if I want to get them all repainted to make them look better, or if I should try and strip the black paint off. Im worried if I try to get it off, I may make a mess of things. Any help in this regard would be greatly appreciated. I have to do one or the other as I see imperfections in the paint that I cant live with, but cant decide if all the chrome back would be better or if they should be repainted. A big factor in the decision is as a DIY project, which option is easier to do and get to look right?
Maybe you'll get lucky and they did it with plastidip instead which would peel off (though you'd probably already know by now. I like having the chrome on mine, but it's a personal preference. If they did if fact paint it, they likely scuffed up the chrome under it to make the paint stick better, so you'd be looking to replace them likely anyway if you strip the paint.
Definitely not dip or itd all be off already. Its glossy paint. In the few spots I can see chipping, it looks smooth underneath, but you know how it is. Until you actually remove the paint, you have no idea whats waiting for you. Hmmm...

I thought 255 40's were the factory size? That's what mine came with anyway
Thank you guys so much for all of the positive comments. It seems like removing the paint from the chrome shouldnt be too hard, but Im so worried it will turn out to be harder than it looks and Ill make a big mess of things. Im not sure which way to go. 2 options. 1. Have a professional repaint all the chrome trim black so its perfect ($$$$, which is tight these days), or 2. Remove the paint from the chrome myself and hoping I dont mess it all up. There are so many tight, thin creases here and there that from 5 feet away it looks easy to do, but up close, you see its a more involved job than youd have guessed. But IM SOOOOO ****, I will have to decide on one or the other soon as its driving me nuts. I think the blacked out chrome actually looks very good, so AMG Hammer if you will. But if I want to stick with that look, I need to get it redone right.
I know Im still new around here, but if you knew me youd understand. When I bought the car, it was already tinted. But it wasnt to the standard I insist tint should be. So 1st I had ALL of the tint removed, then spent a few hundred $$s and got it redone. If it aint done right, it aint done!
Turns out my new wheels are 18 x 9.5, not the 8.5 width I ordered. Thats why I have a 2.25 inch lip rather than what would have been a 1 inch lip. They look great, but unfortunately I curbed one of them pretty bad in the snow and finding my exact wheel has turned out to be VERY difficult, as most folks buy either 8.5 inch wide, a different offset or larger. Luckily I was finally able to track one down, but man when it comes to wheels I have the worst luck! DTD also did nothing to make up for one blunder after another on their side. This was the 3rd full set of wheels Ive bought from them (2 sets with all new 4 tires also), and another 2 wheels with new tires in under a year, but Ill not deal with them ever again.
Just got an email from the vendor I bought the new wheel from, turns out they were showing incorrect stock and the wheel isnt available. **** **** ****
Wow, that is bad news.
Can't you make a deal with the dealer to change back to 8.5J?
After all, I am surprised that the inner flange of the 9.5J rim front does not hit the suspension at full lock.
Besides, Coventry does not even list the 9.5J on their site as recommended for the XJ, 8.5J max.
And 8.5J should work fine with your 255 tires as well, perhaps even better.
Anyway, good luck, I feel your pain.

Could you post the exact size of the wheels, especially offset? They really did fit it well... would be interesting to see how they compare to the 20" XK wheels
