i just had a new transmission installed in my 1999 xj8 which was covered by the select edition warranty i didn't know i had. when i picked it up and drove it down the road, the throttle stuck and it felt like i was rearended and it accelerated into the middle of an intersection! then when they fixed that problem, and delivered it to me, i had no brakes!! it had to be towed back to the dealer. it seems that the brakes were not bled. is it possible? do they do anything with the brakes to replace the transmission? please help!! i'm stuck with my 4th loaner because of this problem! any ideas?

THERE IS A RECALL R514 THAT MAY REQUIRE YOU CAR TO HAVE A NEW THROTTLE BODY INSTALLED FOR FREE. LOOK INTO THIS. AND YES WE HAVE CARS WERE ONE IS MINT AND NEVER NEEDS A THING EXCEPT REGULAR SERVICE AND SOME THAT ARE LEMONS.......SOUNDS TO ME LIKE YOU HAVE BEEN DEALT THE LATTER.SORRY. BUT IF I WERE YOU I WOULD DEFINETLY GO AND TALK TO EITHER THE SERVICE MANAGER OR THE GENERAL MANAGER OF THE DEALERSHIP AND SEE IF YOU CAN GET SOME GOODWILL OR TAKE YOUR BUISENESS ELSEWERE.

Luigi,
you still here....I have a question about when u felt like u have been rear ended...I am getting that now. I have a 2001 Xj8.
At very low speed almost to a stop and when i hit accelerator I get a thud/clunk feel like its coming from the rear. Dealer says no codes, fluid is fine and control modules is ok. Dealer wants to replace transmission. (expensive)

This just happened over the weekend. Stopped at a light. Pushed gas at green and a tremendous 'thump' occurred. I had literally thought I had got rear-ended. Stepped on gas again and immediately I knew I had lost a couple of gears.Car wassluggish on pick up speed. Dash board lit up like the dash on Star Trek with'tranmission fault'. I have reverse with no problem and can drive normal speeds with the over drive gear. Engine Light came on when I started car 2nd time after getting to destination.I called Jagdealership while this was happening andtech said my car was in 'limp mode'.From reading other posts, tech said to turn off car and restart which may reset computer. NOT. I bought car 2.5 yrs ago with 73k miles on it. I have only 83k miles. Its literally a weekend driver. How in the world can a 70k car with transmission fail like this. Its New Years Day. Tuesday Im in to the dealership. Wow. Off to a good start for the new year.

UPDATE -- Jag dealership service lady said could be technical glitch in computer. I told her reading online more likely for me I might be needing a new trans and asked her if with only 83k is this normal?? and common.I told her jas forums liststonsof'transmission faults' withjag's. She said its 'over exagerated'. Well dealership called me later and said my 'overexagerated problem' would be a new trans that would cost$5800and other minor problems like hoses and stuff wouldput me abuot 7k in the hole. Just ridiculous for this car.

Krampjag,It was kind of bittersweet reading your post about your recent transmission problem. Glad that there was someone else in the world going through what I experienced, but dissappointed another XJ8 was malfunctioning. Did you ever get a chance to solve your problem?? I am debating to either drag the XJ8 out to the dealership and get a diagnostic for $100+ or order a new transmission or already. Let me know how things are going. Thanks!--Chester86

Update, well, I dont know about solving the transmission problem, but I went to carmax and they gave me 2k for it. I did my research wih other mech shops and advised me not to part it out. (headache and so forth) and even if they repaired it i probably would of come up even. I figured I'd take the 2k and run. And for all Jag S Type owners out there. While the service tech was giving me the 'good' news about my trans, she happened to say that the S Type will be discontinued and the spring of 07 will be replacing with a c-lxr or something like that. I forgot already. Believe it or not, in sept i was looking to trade it in and carmax would've givin me 4500.00............. damn
