No ground wire on the Fuel Tank?

As the title states, I started replacing my fuel pumps since one was bad. When I pulled the carpet back and followed the instructions to remove the ground cable I noticed that it didn't even exist. I noticed as well, when I got the pumps out, that they were different and guessed someone had been in the tank before. So I would guess that the previous owner forgot to put the ground cable back and that could be the reason one of my pumps failed. I looked for burnt cables and cable connectors and didn't see any problems there.
So My question is, do 2001 XJR's even come with ground wires? and how do I make or obtain one? If I can make one that would be even better since the car needs to be working in the next few hours.
Thanks everyone!

On my 98' XJR, I just replaced both of my original
235K mile pumps yesterday because the secondary pump was dead. They were dated 9/29/97! Anyways, I did have a ground wire bolted from the left side underside of the speaker shelf to a clip on the top left side, on the frontside of the tank. I only mentioned this just in case someone performed a search on the forum.
