Default no start

I got into my XJR this morning and it wouldn't start. It cranked fast, having been on a Battery Tender, but wouldn't even try to fire. I hooked up a code reader and only had the P1111.

Tried starting in neutral, but didn't start. I didn't try the inertia switch, but it hasn't been jarred or in an accident, and dash lights worked, doors unlocked, etc. I could hear the fuel pump(s) buzzing.

Would anyone have any ideas? The battery light was on while trying to start, along with the yellow engine light, and the rest of the dash lights, but it cranked fast. Of course, I can't remember what items on the dash normally come on when starting.

Thank you for any suggestions. Louis

You don't mention how long since it has run but a cylinder wash comes to mind with the comment 'but it cranked fast'. Why not try the cylinder wash start procedure to see what happens. Can't hurt. Actually testing the fuel pressure would be the second recommendation. And reseating the start and fuel relays just for grins for a third.

Good luck and please let us know what happens.

Thanks testpoint. It has been a week and a half since I drove it. I always drive it for 15 miles minimum before shutting it off. It has been bitterly cold here, and my garage is unheated. But it is 45 right now here. Testpoint, are the start and fuel relays in the trunk? Thanks, Louis

In the right hand enclosure in the engine compartment. Sorry, posted 'fuel pump', meant ignition.

No start could be many things from fuel, spark, VVT and cylinder washing. See if this procedure helps.

Out on a limb, here, but guessing you have a frozen fuel line. Once it warms up, should start; if so, add some dry gas.

I think....jim may have it......was 5 degrees round my way....i tried starting the day after the cold spell broke....still below freezing though......i also battery tend.....when i turned the key i heard the fuel pump......waited a good 20 sec...before i tried starting....would crank but no start.....i did this a few times and decided to come back to it later......

that afternoon....i bought some dry gas....and i put a little seafoam in the tank as well....car sat overnight.......the next day afternoon......temp hit low 40s.....tried starting again.....on third turn the car started....but reved high....and i got a restricted performance message.....eventually the rpm....went down to 6000....where it should be...i turned the car off...and started it up again about 2 hours later.....started on first try.....and hit the 6000rpm almost immediately......restricted performance message went away....end of story......come to think of it if i had to sit in sub zero/wind chill factor for four days i would not start very well....in fact i would probably be dead....

i hope thats all it is....and good luck....
