Noise from right rear

Noise from right rear
A few weeks ago I posted about a noise which I thought was coming from the rear of my 1999 VDP. After changing the shocks and the U joints the noise was still present. I knew I also needed to replace the front shock mounts so I did that. For whatever reason, that was what was causing the noise which I perceived was coming from the rear of the car. An expensive bit of diagnostics for me but maybe my lesson can save someone else some frustration in the future. The next item on my agenda is tracking down why the lights in my trunk don't come on. Someone posted that there is a mercury switch so I think I will start there. When removing the trunk lid cover you have to remove the lock. I assume it is critical to mark this so it can be reinstalled exactly the way it was removed or does it just go in one way?

It is quite possible the lighting problem is a broken wire. First verify your bulbs are good, then remove the wiring bundle routed along the right hand boot hinge. It needs to be unwrapped and then checked for a broken wire. Bad wires in that bundle are a known problem due to all of the flexing the bundle experiences. Use a couple of needles inserted into each wire at the beginning and end of the bundle and check each wire for continuity with a multi-meter. Repair by splicing any broken wires.
