Ok, I have replaced the fuel pump, and filter and the 98 XJ8 worked great.
This morning go to crank her up and I can her the engine wanting to turn and turn so from pervious advice I crank down on the starter for 30 seconds. It kept reving up and reving down but never starting. The check engine light is on. I backed off the starter because I started to smell something funny.
I just bought the car 2 months ago and have put 4k miles on it (63K total). ImI over reacting by wanting to sell it? Any help would be much appreciated.
Thanks

You are overreacting. What was the funny smell? If you could feel it starting to kick over, keep foot all the way down on the gas and when it kicks, let off about half way on the throttle. Keep doing this, but do not let go of the key. Is it possible that you are smelling fuel?

It kicked over tonight. The wife gave it some gas while i was looking under the hood and it kicked over. Thanks guys for all the help. What would have caused this and how do I prevent it if possible? Also when driving it the jag kinda rocks around 50mph when i stomp on it it. However, when it warms up it does not do that. Any thoughts
