Default Oh no! Boot open in red

Gone a few months now without an eye catching message on my dash. It's been so nice. This morning was such a downer. I almost pulled jag back in garage and went to bed.

Accidentally hit the release somewhere? or perhaps a bad trunk switch?

yes, in Brit speak, the Boot is the trunk (and Bonnet would be the hood, just for sake of argument there).

Rather easily, you can take the trunk switch out from the lock assembly.
The actual switch is hold into a plastic housing (easy to separate), which also contains the latch assembly (the moving pin, which operates the switch).

With some luck, something is stuck or bent there.

I did mine just yesterday, as I had the reverse problem (switch did not always connect, hence the lights did not always go on).
Although the switch is sealed, I managed to spray some cab. cleaner into it, probable solving the bad contact.
Works better then ever before, at least for now.

I have a pic if needed.

LOL! the boot was not all the way closed, the mains leads were not connected, the tea and crumpets were not available...

Thanks! I shut the trunk and all is well with the green money pit.

Glad to hear it I hit my release accidentally the other day, and didn't realize it until I went to lock the doors and instead of "chirp" it went "BEEEEEEEEEP!!!!" I was like, woah, that's different... wtf.. didn't see a door open, got back in the car, saw the message and went "oh, oops?"

On to better days!

On my first XJ8, I would consistently get the Boot Open message: after six tries -- it was under warranty -- the dealer's tech finally found a frayed wire in the the loom along the hinge.

I get it almost as frequently in the new one -- with arthritis in both knees, I am gripping the door, with fob between thumb and door, as I lower myself into the Jag, accidentally hitting trunk release . . .
