Oil Change

Oil Change
I was on my way to the auto parts store to get oil and a filter and decided to stop at a quick change place and got it done in 10 minutes or so for under $60 -- which is less than I was going to pay for the supplies and do it myself in this stifling heat that we're having today!
I have no problem paying that amount for someone else to do it for me!
The nice thing about south Florida? There are so many Jaguars around here that the guys at these places "know" these cars - unlike in Wisconsin where I had the oil changed last month!

These are only a 13mm plug with fine thread so don't need some guerilla armed bozo overtightening it ;o))

I generally use the plug for three oil changes before replacing but I have a supply of the 'o' rings to fit new each time...they work better than a flat or 'Thackery' washer and only have to be lightly torqued like 25nm

No signs of any leak so I'll follow your 'use for three oil changes before replacing' plan.
Haven't got a plug to hand to be able to check but I thought the O ring was bonded to the metal. Right or wrong?

Part No I'm using is AJ8 3017 at £7.61 ($11.84 US / $11.53 AUS)
As supplied from Jaguar Dealers in the UK, it comes with the O ring attached.

I rarely if ever buy anything from the rip off merchants who pose as main stream dealers!
Try this:.....
Drain Plug - AJ83017 | Jaguar X150 XK - XKR, Jaguar XJ8 - XJR, Jaguar XK8 - XKR | Jaguar | British Parts UK
These guys are one of my best suppliers.
To run these cars ecomically these days you have to be 50% detective to track down the best part prices. ;o)

They probably buy them in from a bearing and seal factors (as you guys call them).
They are a fairly large cross section....I would say 3mm.
You can buy the bare plug but at the price that British Parts sell them why would you bother?
Because of the infrequent use of my car (out once a week)I change the oil every 5,000klm or three months and change the filter every second oil change.
When Jeremy J. does go out for a strop it's nothing less than 200klm ;o))
Mine being an AJ26 4.0 litre, I use Penrite HPR5 (5W40) full synthetic....there is no other oil that comes near it for specification period!
I also use Nulon E-30 PTFE oil additive twice a year.
This engine has covered just under 200,000klm and runs very sweetly.
